LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Internet expressed disappointment as the 22-year-old Tyla was awarded a Grammy for Best African Music Performance, surpassing artists like Burna Boy and Davido. Labeling the Grammys 2024 as "overrated," questions were raised about the quality of the award ceremony. Many pondered how Burna Boy, hailed as the "King of Afrofusion," could face defeat at the Grammys, losing all four nominations in 2024.
Furthermore, shock arose on the internet regarding how Davido, one of the 21st century's most influential Afrobeats artists, could lose at the Grammys. Disagreeing with the winner's list, people online asserted that Davido and Burna Boy deserved to win more than Tyla. After being left shocked by Tyla's win, a user tweeted, "Tyla won Against the likes of Davido, Burna Boy, Olamide, It shows #GRAMMYs isn’t about the quality of music, but the populace of which your music reaches." Another disappointed user wrote, "Burna boy ‘Sitting on top of the world’ no even top the #GRAMMYs."
"Ayra deserved that award ……. or even davido ….. or burna ….. or asake. love water & tyla but girl bffr #GRAMMYs," wrote another user. Another disagreed with Tyla's win at Grammys 2024, "Burna Boy, Davido & Wiz Kid deserve Grammys before Tyla. I’m in no way a Tyla hater, but one single over several hit singles, collabs, tours; etc. I disagree #GRAMMYs."
"Grammy is overrated !!!" tweeted a furious user. One slammed the award ceremony, "#GRAMMYs know nothing about Afrobeats to begin with then f*** them. How do you create a new category for Africans and give it to the newest cat in the category. All the other nominees are the reason the category was created in the first place."
Some Instagram users demanded Grammy's boycott, commenting, "Let's all cancel Grammy from Africa simple." Another furious viewer claimed, "Time for Nigeria 🇳🇬 to boycott Grammys I sense campaign to destroy afrobeat." Another wrote, "She didn’t deserve that sh*t the Grammys know nothing about afrobeat."
