Bob Newhart hails 60 YEARS of marriage to Virginia Quinn after she beats liver cancer

The 93-year-old actor has been married to Virginia Quinn since 1963 and is the father to their four children

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bob Newhart and Virginia Quinn's marriage is one of the few marriages in Hollywood that has survived the test of time and come out as a winner. The 93-year-old actor has been married to Quinn since 1963, and recently, the very much-in-love couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Newhart shared some throwback photos with his wife as he proudly wrote, “Sixty years ago today, after being set up on a blind date by Buddy Hackett, Bob Newhart married Virginia Quinn on January 12, 1963. In honor of this amazing milestone, we wanted to share some of our favorite photos.” His tweet attracted a lot of sweet messages from his fans with one saying, “Wow, that is really cool. I had no idea about the relationship. I am now going to investigate his films and guest appearances. Thank you!”

Our anniversary is 1/12/2013 and we also met on a blind date 💜 10 years down 50+ to go!” “My wife and I are at 15 years, a quarter of the way. After another mere 30 years, we'll be at 45 years, and you'll be at 90, so we'll be halfway there. We're catching up!” the fourth one added.

The secret to a long happy marriage?

Newhart had once revealed how he and Quinn endured the challenges life threw at them. “There's something about laughter and the longevity of a marriage,” the comedian reportedly shared. He had also thanked late actor Buddy Hackett for his marriage as he told PEOPLE, “Well, we’re both Catholic. She’s three quarters Irish. I’m three quarters Irish.

“Buddy said, ‘I’ve got a girl for you. She’s going with another guy, but I don’t think he’s right for her, so I’m going to fix you up on a blind date. You’ll meet her and you’ll date and you’ll get married. Then you’ll have kids and you’ll call one of the kids Buddy.’ Which we did — one of our daughters, we called her Buddy.”

Besides, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ star told Patrick Novecosky of Legatus magazine, “Being Catholic has a lot to do with it. You work a little harder. You don’t just have your first fight and walk out the door.”

Faith kept Newhart and Quinn going in difficult times

A very hard time came in the pair’s life when Quinn got liver cancer. Sharing about that time, Newhart reportedly said, “During the week, I’ll go to church twice a week. … [Ginnie] had a liver transplant [in 2008]. She’s in the prime of health now. I kind of go and thank Him for that. That was a very emotional time.”

He also added, “I think God has an incredible sense of humor. All you have to do is look around the world. There’s no question that He has an incredible sense of humor.”

Family is everything

Newhart is also a father of four children and ten grandchildren. For him, family is all as he reportedly stated, “I have four kids and 10 grandchildren. I’ve always said: I don’t care how successful you’ve been in this business, if you haven’t had a good family life, what have you really achieved? Not an awful lot. You can be the richest man in the world and look back at your marriages that were disasters and what have you really accomplished? That’s the way I look at life.”
