Blackpink's run of international success has received another boost following Netflix's announcement that the streaming giant will be releasing the k-pop group's upcoming documentary. Titled 'Blackpink: Light Up the Sky', the documentary was announced by Netflix on their official Twitter handle saying, "Blackpink: Light Up the Sky — an all-access documentary about one of the world's most popular groups — premieres in your area on October 14! Oh and that’s not all... on October 14, these music icons will also become Netflix profile icons."

Release date

'Blackpink: Light Up the Sky' will be available to stream on Netflix starting October 14, 2020, just 12 days after their debut Korean studio album titled 'The Album' is set to drop (October 2, 2020).

Plot

'Blackpink: Light Up the Sky', the all-access documentary, will feature exclusive interviews with Blackpink members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa as well as never-before-seen footage. It will follow the trials and tribulations of being a k-pop star, Blackpink's recording process, and will climax with their historic 2019 Coachella performance.

Cast and Director

'Blackpink: Light Up the Sky' will feature members of the k-pop girl group. The documentary has been directed by Caroline Suh, known for directing Netflix’s 'Salt Fat Acid Heat' and is produced by RadicalMedia. The executive producers of 'Blackpink: Light Up the Sky' are Cara Mones, Jon Kamen, David Sirulnick and Zara Duffy.

Fans were extremely elated by Netflix's announcement as one fan wrote, "omg thank god my Netflix isn't expired yet."

On the music front, Blackpink cracked the Billboard Hot 100 with their latest single 'Ice Cream', their collaboration with Selena Gomez.
