Originally presented to The Beatles in 1968 as the ‘Best Contemporary Album’ award, this category was rebranded in 2001 as the ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’ award. Quite like the ever-changing landscape of the pop genre, this category sure has seen its share of ups and downs!

Billie Eilish, who makes her Grammy debut this year, was the one to bag the Best Pop Vocal Album award this year for her debut LP ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ She was nominated for a total of six awards at the 62nd Grammy Awards, including Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist, among others.

Her debut full-length album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ debuted in March 2019. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and topped charts around the world.

The 2019 Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album had gone to Ariana Grande for ‘Sweetener’, however, due to conflicts with show producers on what songs she could perform, the singer opted out of attending the show. She later shared pictures of the gorgeous custom gown she intended to wear to the ceremony, leaving a lot of fans disappointed that they missed out on the chance to see her accept her award and perform their favorite tunes at the show.

Luckily most of this year’s nominees were in attendance, including Beyoncé for ‘The Lion King: The Gift’, and of course, Grande for ‘Thank U, Next’. Ed Sheeran was nominated for 'No. 6 Collaborations Project', while Taylor Swift, nominated for 'Lover', mysteriously chose to skip the event this year leaving people to speculate about whether this has to do with recent controversies surrounding the event.

Check out Eilish's latest release, the music video for her song 'Everything I Wanted', written for her brother Finneas who won Producer of the Year, Non-Classical tonight for ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’.
