‘Renaissance’ Frenzy: Beyonce dubs ‘karens’ TERRORISTS in new track ‘Energy’, fans can’t handle it
An online frenzy has descended on fans as Queen B dropped lyrics for her new head-spinning track 'Energy'
Beyonce, after promoting her new album ‘Renaissance’ for weeks on Instagram and TikTok, finally released it on leading streaming platforms. The acclaimed R&B crooner soon ensued chaos on the Internet as her loyal fans plugged into her latest studio offering.
While Beyonce’s new songs from the album like ‘Break My Soul,' ‘Church Girl,' ‘Thique,' ‘Plastic Off the Sofa,' and ‘Virgo’s Groove’ swiftly became favorites: it is the song titled ‘Energy’ that made waves on Twitter. Beyonce, on the track, dubbed Karens as “terrorists” which prompted many on social media to react. For the unversed, Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ had leaked two days prior to the official release. The singer then called out the leakers in her latest Instagram post and thanked her fans for protecting the album.
‘Cause them Karens just turned into terrorists’
Beyonce on the ‘Energy’ intro goes, “On stage, rockin' out, I'm star crazy/ Cocoa flow like 1980's/ Come list 'til I drop lazy/ None of that, maybe.” The Grammy-winning crooner in the bridge then sings, “We was just chillin', mindin' our business/ Poppin' our pain and champagne through the ceiling/ Sippin' it up, flickin' it up/ All this good energy got you all in your feelings, feelings.”
While everything is smooth till here, the 40-year-old songstress then drops the bomb in the next few lines as she claims Karens turned into terrorists. “I'm crazy, I'm swearin'/ I'm daring, your man's staring/ I just entered the country with derringers/ 'Cause them Karens just turned into terrorists”, sings Beyonce. According to Wikipedia, “Karen is a pejorative term for a white woman perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is normal. The term is often portrayed in memes depicting white women who use their white privilege to demand their own way.” Wiki further says, “The term has been criticized as being ageist, sexist, racist, classist, misogynistic and seeking to control women's behavior.”
Speaking of Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’, this is the singer’s seventh solo album and comes five years after 2016 ‘Lemonade’. Jay-Z, Drake, Skrillex, The-Dream, Syd, Lucky Daye, Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers, Nija Charles, 070 Shake are some of the artists featured on the album.
