From calling it a 'sympathy promotion' to declaring that she didn't deserve it, fans had strong feelings about Ashley's promotion to lead stew

Ever since Ashley Marti set foot on Parsifal III her goal was to get the title of 'second stew'. But when chief stewardess Daisy Kelliher made Gabriela Barragan the second stew and Ashley the third stew, it created pure chaos on 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 3.

Ashley did everything in her power to be as difficult as she could be and constantly disobeyed and disrespected Gabriela to the point that she left the show mid-season. With Gabriela out of the way, Ashley was confident about finally getting the promotion and landing her dream job. Unfortunately for her, Daisy wasn't comfortable giving the promotion as she felt that Ashley still had a lot of learning and growing up to do, especially when it came to working in teams. So, Daisy made Ashley and Gabriela's replacement stew Scarlett Bentley junior stews instead. Though Ashley was irked by this snub, she was more determined than ever to prove herself to Daisy. So amidst all the drama with Gary King, Ashley worked really hard during the last charter of the season and finally got promoted to lead stew.

During the season finale episode, Daisy announced to the crew that Ashley was getting promoted to lead stew as she displayed tremendous growth and improvement in her work. Though the promotion didn't really mean anything aside from the title change in Ashley's CV since it was towards the end of the charter season, Ashley was still elated about it. She explained in her confessional that the promotion proved to her that she could do anything she set her heart on and felt validated by Daisy.

Although Ashley and the crew were happy about her promotion, sadly, fans didn't share the same feeling. From calling it a "sympathy promotion" to declaring that she didn't deserve it, fans had a lot of strong feelings about it. A fan tweeted, "Ashley, lead stew when there’s no charter. Daisy could have named her Mayor of Mallorca, and it would have had the same impact #BelowDeckSailing." Another fan wrote, "Daisy might have been sincere giving Ashley the “promotion” the DAY THE LAST CHARTER ENDED so, like, it’s futile at this point… Or she might have been worried Ashley would shank her on their last night out if she didn’t. #BDSY #BelowDeckSailing."
