Spoilers for 'Belgravia' Season 1 Episode 4

After the events of last week's episode, more and more people were keen on finding out who exactly is Charles Pope (Jack Bardoe) and the reason behind the sudden increase in his popularity. Why is everyone talking about Charles Pope and why are they interested in investing in his ideas and business?

Needless to say, John Bellasis (Adam James) takes it upon himself to dig deeper into the matter to find out the truth. In order to know more, he begins bribing the staff of the Trenchards to smuggle inside information about Charles. And this staff, as fickle as they come, are ready to sell their loyalties for tips from the corrupt Bellasis, particularly the greedy Turton (Paul Ritter) and the desperate and whiny Ellis (Saskia Reeves).

"Oooo Chile.... the deception the lies...," tweeted a fan. Many are surprised by the lengths they will go to for some pennies. "These servants are awful," said one.

"Everything has a fee! Dang these people! Selling their souls," added another. "The downstairs staff conniving and contriving!" said a viewer.

For many, it was shocking and they didn't know if they wanted to continue watching the downstairs staff sell their conscious. "I don't enjoy shows/movies where 'bad' people seemingly scheme for scheming's sake and Belgravia has tipped far into that for me and I think I'm out."

At the same time, love is in the air and the new budding romance between Lady Maria Grey and Charles already has many fans of the show strongly believe that the two are a match made in heaven. "Lady Maria Gray and Charles Pope... perfect together #Belgravia," tweeted a fan.

One of the major things that are problematic about Lady Maria Grey and her engagement to John is their glaring age difference. While it wasn't uncommon for men to marry really young girls in 1800s Britain, it is a practice that is difficult to digest even now. "Is it me or does John seem 50 and Lady Maria seem 16?" tweeted a fan, hinting at how Charles is the better suitor for her.

"Mr. Pope and Lady Maria are falling in love before our very eyes," tweeted another fan. "Such a good guy, Mr Pope," added another.

Yet, being the period drama that it is, 'Belgravia' continues to offer some respite from the trying times that we are currently living in — an hour of escape that many of its audience seek out. "Sunday night means it's almost time to forget my #pandemic troubles for a while," wrote one fan.

Episode 5 of 'Belgravia' will air on Sunday, May 10, 2020, at 9/8c on Epix.
