MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Barbara Corcoran seems excited about the upcoming Derby Festival, as she recently took to Instagram to share her pick. However, considering the nature of the game, it didn't take long for her fans and followers to criticize her for endorsing a sport that they believe entails brutal treatment of animals.

Not long ago, Barbara had found herself in deep water for her comments during her appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast. In the interview, she gushed about how much she enjoys firing people on Fridays. The video of her discussing this became popular on TikTok. She stated she liked walking up to their desk and making references to the firing meeting a few days prior. She also stated that she does not notify employees why they are fired. Furthermore, she just informs them that they do not "fit the company." While it is evident that people should avoid being negative or continuously whining at work, there is something fishy about a rich-ass CEO taking pleasure in terminating someone. People were definitely offended by her remarks. Barbara hasn't responded to the outrage but she has put herself in another bind with her recent Instagram post.

Barbara shares her pick for Kentucky Derby

The first race in the American Triple Crown of horse racing is the Kentucky Derby. Historically, it has been held on the first Saturday in May. This 1 1/4-mile (10-furlong) event, which was first contested in 1875, is conducted on the dirt track at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, where it has been held ever since. Only Thoroughbreds less than 3 years old are eligible for the Kentucky Derby. The Road to the Kentucky Derby is a 35-race global series in which eligible horses participate. The 20 horses with the highest points at the end of the series qualify for the Derby. Horses earn points for placing in the Top 4.

The 149th Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 6. Coverage begins at 12 pm ET on NBC, Peacock, NBCSports.com, and the NBC Sports app and continues until 7.30 pm ET. The Kentucky Derby takes place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

Barbara commemorated the occasion with an Instagram post on May 5. She posted a photo of herself, photoshopped, standing in front of a racecourse, holding a Rocking Potato Wooden Hobby Horse Stick and wearing what appears to be a contemporary fascinator. In the caption, she wrote, "It’s almost #DerbyDay! My money is on ‘Confidence Game’💰🐎 Which horse are you picking?"

'Understand the consequences of these inhumane practices'

Many social media users slammed Barbara for the post. One person commented, "Multiple horses have already died leading up to today and most are sent to slaughter after retirement. Please understand the consequences of these inhumane practices. I hope some day there are other more ethical forms of entertainment that people can enjoy." Another chimed in, "You should be an example of humane treatment of animals. They are not property and there is nothing glamorous in the suffering and abuse of animals. I am sure if you listen to your heart you will change .. it’s never too late." Urging the 'Shark Tank' investor to take a different look at the matter, one wrote, "4 horses died on that track this week something has to change @barbaracorcoran and I grew up at the racetrack." A fourth person added, "Don’t believe in using horses for our profit .." One fellow Derby lover also wrote, "very with so many deaths prior to race event~ sitting this one out."
