Bang Bang Con: Fans upset 'Attack On Bangtan' was cut out, here's why this song belonged on the show
Bang Bang Con continues with the 2017 Wings tour, but fans were quick to notice that 'Attack On Titan', which was listed on the setlist, was missing from the online concert.
"Did they skip attack on bangtan or," asks one fan, adding "According to that set list it should’ve been where woh was........somebody lying." Another states, "FR I WAS WAITING FOR ATTACK ON BANGTAN AND THEY JUST SKIPPED IT ???? They put it in the last one now apparently???" while one fan threatens, "WHICH FKER SAID ATTACK ON BANGTAN WAS ON THE SETLIST IM ACTUALLY READY TO START VIOLENCE"
But as we all cry in unison for the omission of such an iconic track, let us also reminisce on BTS' humble beginnings with 2013's 'Attack On Bangtan' and celebrate the journey BTS have had from teenage boys dreaming big to adults who speak on a variety of topics ranging from self-love and mental health to fame and being global icons in 2020.
BTS' latest album, 'Map of the Soul: 7' celebrates their seven years in the industry, beginning with releases like their first mini-album 'O!RUL8,2?', which included the iconic song 'Attack On Bangtan'. 'O!RUL8,2' put BTS on the map as rising stars in K-Pop as it showcased their amazing rap and vocal skills in addition to their energetic dance moves. The album's concepts revolved around the experiences of young teenage boys, including topics like young love, dealing with high school, and the big dreams they had for their distant futures. 'Attack On Bangtan' saw the boys dream of one day making it big. This release also saw the boys defend their choice to build a career as idols, highlighting their pride in their work.
The Wings tour in 2017, parts of which are airing today as part of Bang Bang Con, featured songs off 'O!RUL8,2?' in addition to a beautiful video that sees the boys struggle against criticism and fight back against the opposition they faced. It slowly traces their path from rookies towards achieving their larger-than-life dreams. It really cements how ambitious BTS was right from Day 1, never letting anyone bring them down, besides also highlighting that you can never dream too big as long as you are willing to fight to make those dreams come true.
In 'MOTS7', the boys double down on some of their earliest concepts. The album sees them reflecting on the journey they've had so far and reaffirming their pride in their work. Songs like 'Black Swan' and Suga's solo 'Shadow' speak of the downsides of fame, specifically how difficult it is to face the darkness that is inherent in artistry. The group got vulnerable on this album as they discussed their struggles with holding onto their passion as well as their journey towards self-love and making peace with the greatness their international fame bestowed upon them.
The song, 'On', specifically states they are ready to take on whatever pain comes at them because they are accepting that this fate is part of the journey towards their dreams, the same ones they had when they just started out. 'Attack On Bangtan' and 'On' are two songs that sit at the two ends of BTS journey, the former featuring young artists dreaming of seeing the world and the latter featuring established global superstars who have nowhere else to go but further up.
