Ava DuVernay's 'Cherish The Day': Michael Beach, Anne-Marie Johnson and Kellee Stewart join additional cast and directorial line-up
Award-winning creator Ava DuVernay's upcoming romantic anthology drama 'Cherish The Day' gets an additional cast and directorial line-up with Blitz Bazawule, Aurora Guerrero and Deborah Kampmeier joining previously announced director Tanya Hamilton.
Created and executive produced by DuVernay, the highly anticipated romantic anthology drama added Michael Beach, Anne-Marie Johnson and Kellee Stewart to the cast of the drama as recurring roles along with series regulars Xosha Roquemore, Alano Miller, and legendary Emmy-winning actress Cicely Tyson.
Chapter one of 'Cherish The Day' chronicles "the stirring relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. The narrative will unfold to reveal significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the everyday."
'The Mindy Project' alumnus Roquemore stars as Gently James and 'Underground' star Miller stars as Even Fisher. According to the official synopsis, "the couple meet and fall in love in Los Angeles, with the full season spanning five years in eight episodes."
In recurring roles, Michael Beach is set to play the role of Gently's foster father Ben, a former gang member who works as a deliveryman for the Los Angeles Times, while Anne-Marie Johnson will be playing the role of Dana, Evan's mother who disapproves of his relationship with Gently and is open about her reservations regarding her.
Also a recurring role, Kellee Stewart will be playing the role of Ellene, Evan's well-bred, religious sister.
'Cherish The Day' recently announced that it achieved full gender parity with a production crew of over 50 percent women, including 18 female department heads.
Women were hired across directing, writing, production design, hair, costume, makeup, camera, set design, casting, editing, set decoration, sound, grip, accounting, location, stunts, post-production supervisor and script supervisor among others.
Led by DuVernay, the series is set to premiere in winter 2020 and is produced for OWN by ARRAY Filmworks and Harpo Films in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
Along with DuVernay, Tanya Hamilton (best known for her work on 'Queen Sugar', 'Greenleaf', 'The Chi' and 'Godfather of Harlem'), Paul Garnes (known for 'Queen Sugar') and Oprah Winfrey serve as executive producers.
