Astro’s MJ who was the oldest of the group has become the first member to enlist in the military. Fans were disheartened as he had been on a hiatus for the first half of 2022 and would not be able to join his K-pop group for their latest comeback. However, before enlisting in the army, he did record and participate in the songs and the music video of Astro’s latest album ‘Drive To The Starry Road’.

MJ enlisted for his mandatory military service on May 9. After finishing the standard training, he will complete his service in the military band. We have also had idols like SHINee’s Key, Taemin, BTOB’s Sungjae and SF9’s Inseong completing their military service in the army band. Like them, Astro’s MJ will be in the band for 1 year and 6 months before he is discharged and can return to civilian life. But it looks like some fans are already missing him too much or trolls were involved as his label has shared that his base has been getting prank calls.

Astro’s agency warns of legal action against prank callers

Fans were shocked when Fantagio, Astro’s label, reported that the military base where MJ was residing was getting more and more cases of prank calls and it was affecting the idol’s training. The label reminded fans that prank calls can be subject to punishment and that pranking military bases and units could further lead to harsh and severe punishments. The label hoped that fans would not prank call MJ’s base anymore and let him complete his military service smoothly. They also warned that if the incidents continued they would take legal action against those involved.

'This is not ok'

Arohas (Astro’s fans) are annoyed that there are some who are trying to hurt MJ’s reputation and were trying to mess with the country’s mandatory military services. One fan tweeted, “This is not ok? Who would even think of this!? This is going to hurt MJ’s reputation. What’s the fun of pranking? Grow up whoever does it. Ugh!! Poor MJ!!!” Another was angry, “Now who's prank calling MJ.” One Aroha was confused, “Why do they prank call a military base??”

One warned, “Please do not do immature things like this! This will reflect badly on MJ and subsequently, ASTRO as a whole. Think before doing things.” Another Aroha wrote, "Note that MJ went to military for his duty. For you to do such prank calls is completely disrespectful. Fantagio reaching out here meaning he has been receiving A LOT and its disturbing. If you do love MJ and support him pls do respect him as well."
