MOSCOW, IDAHO: Journalist Ashleigh Banfield has been facing people’s wrath on the Internet after interviewing the mother of Xana Kernodle, one of the Idaho victims. Banfield had a conversation with Xana's mom, Cara Northington, and the pair discussed Anne Taylor, the chief of the Kootenai County Public Defender’s Office.

As per reports, Taylor had previously represented Cara in her drug-related cases but in January, she was assigned to represent Bryan Kohberger, who is accused of murdering Xana and her three friends from the University of Idaho. The other victims were Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin, whose lives were taken away in the early hours of November 13.

During the recent interview, NewNations’ Banfield appeared to try to instigate Northington against Taylor as she reportedly said that Northington trusted her attorney the most, but she’s now representing her daughter’s alleged killer. She went on to ask the victim’s mother, “What was your first reaction when you learned that your former attorney is representing the man accused of killing your daughter?”

Cara then replied, “I am heartbroken because I trusted her … (Taylor) pretended that she was wanting to help me … And to find out that she’s representing him (Kohberger), I can’t even convey how betrayed I feel,” before stating, “I don’t understand how she could do this … I don’t understand what happens now. Does she still have power of attorney?”

Though the internet is sympathizing with the devastated mother, they are not happy with Banfield’s approach as they point out that Taylor was appointed as Kohberger’s lawyer as she is a public defender. Also, Cara was given a new lawyer. A Twitter user tweeted, “I think News Nation Ashleigh Banfield should be ashamed for taking advantage of a vulnerable mother. Public Defenders have an obligation. Attorney Taylor is under a gag order and cannot defend herself. Gisela, I hope you will reach out to ‘The Lawyer You Know’ for clarity.”

Another user commented, “What was #AshleighBanfield’s point of airing the interview with Cara? On Jan 5th Cara was given a new attorney, the same day #AnneTaylor ‘was appointed #Kohberger’s provisional defense attorney’. Hope everyone sees “Taylor was appointed”. Christopher Schwartz is now appointed.” The third user said, “Sad tbat you’re using a woman who is clearly incoherent to what’s going on for clickbait. Have some class!  No way, Xana would want her mother who is struggling with addiction being posterized by the media!  #sad.”

A fourth user wrote, “I’m so upset! Ashleigh Banfield just jeopardized the entire case asking Xana’s mom about details on the case! There is a gag order!! !I’ve lost all respect for @newsnation Y’all are vultures interviewing Xana’s mom who is in active addiction who doesn’t know better!” “Xana's life was glowing with joy, peace, love, kindness & success. I bet her mom is so proud of who she was. Please leave her mom in peace, unless you're there to help, support and love her. 😪💛 She is not okay. It's terrible when people exploit vulnerable minds 😪 Been there,” a fifth user added.
