MOSCOW, IDAHO: Four University of Idaho students were found brutally slayed in their off-campus home last month. Ethan Chapin, 20; Xana Kernodle, 20; Madison Mogen, 21; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21; were found stabbed to death between 3 and 4 am on November 13 on the second and third floors of their residence in Moscow, Idaho.
While the investigation has been going on, NewsNation reported that the father of one of the murdered students claimed that he worked on a lock at the residence shortly before the ordeal took place. Cara Denise Northington, the mother of victim Xana Kernodle, told the outlet that Kernodle’s father was at the house to repair or work on a lock in the first week of November. It is not clear whether the lock was on the home’s exterior doors or one of the bedrooms inside the house. It has reportedly six rooms which were individually rented by students.

As per the reports of CrimeOnline, a former tenant of the home said the bedrooms had coded locks in 2019, but some of the locks seemed to have changed based on recent social media photos. Northington told NewsNation that the victims may have known the murderer. “I think they knew them,” Northington told News Nation. “I think they may have even been friends with them. I think it had to have been somebody close to them to have been able to get away with it like this.” The grieving mother added: “It just doesn’t make sense. None of this makes sense. It had to have been somebody they trusted.”
Two other roommates who escaped unharmed were on the first floor during the time of the incident and police believe that they had nothing to do with the murders. The criminal is still at large and authorities have not named a suspect related to the case.
MEAWW previously reported that slain Idaho student Kaylee Goncalves' parents shared new autopsy details in their latest interview and claimed that Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen's causes of death don't match. During the interview, Fox News' Lawrence Jones asked Kaylee’s parents if they believe the attack was ‘targeted’ and what information they have received from law enforcement. Kaylee's mother Kristi Goncalves responded, “They have told us it was targeted but they told us they can’t tell who. We asked specifically, and they said we will try to get that information to you and they got back to us a day or so later they said ‘we are sorry we can’t give you that information.’ But then a day later we saw in the news that it was not targeted.”
