Xana Kernodle’s mom blasts attorney Anne Taylor for ditching her to represent Bryan Kohberger

MOSCOW, IDAHO: Xana Kernodle's mother has reportedly slammed her attorney, Anne Taylor, for abandoning her to represent her daughter’s alleged killer, Bryan Kohberger. The 28-year-old PhD student has been charged with the brutal murders of Kernodle, 21, her boyfriend Ethan Chapin, 20, and two friends, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21.
Kohberger first appeared in an Idaho court on January 5, when a judge appointed Taylor as his public defender. That very same day, Taylor withdrew as counsel for Kernodle’s mother Cara. The chief public defender had been representing her for over a month after her arrest on November 19, 2022, in Kootenai County. She was reportedly charged with two felony counts for possession of a controlled substance.

As per Daily Mail, Cara reportedly said that she discovered what had transpired through a friend, who had seen it online, rather than directly through the public defender’s office or the attorney. “I’m heartbroken because I trusted her. She pretended that she was wanting to help me, and to find out that she is representing him? I can’t even convey how betrayed I feel,” she said in an interview. “I had already signed that so she could help me I don't understand how she could do this. I don't know what goes on now - does she still have power of attorney?” she added.

Cara, who has been battling addiction, continued by stating that she was furious at the authorities, who identified the alleged killer but did not inform them, allowing her other daughter, Jazzmin, to continue studying at Washington State University, alongside Kohberger. "The fact that they knew, and allowed Jazzmin to attend WSU - I'm just beside myself," she said, adding, "She was adamant about still going to school, but I think if she had known Xana's killer was there it would have been different."
Cara added that it was possible Kernodle came across Kohberger at the vegan pizza restaurant, Mad Greek, where she worked with Mogen. Kohberger reportedly ate at the restaurant shortly before the murders, but the owner has since denied seeing him. She further said that she was unaware of him before his imprisonment. "I can't imagine she had any connection with him. He's quite a bit older than her or any of her friends. I don't know if they knew him," she said.
As per the Daily Mail, Cara also claimed that she was active on Facebook groups dedicated to finding the killer, and surprisingly Kohberger was also part of a group. "That was shocking. I had no idea he was trolling the groups like that. I think it shows what a sick-minded person we're dealing with. Someone who can do this has to be very sick in the head. That's what I feel like - it's a game he's playing," she reportedly said.
