A$AP Ferg and Nicki Minaj have another No. 1 hit on their hands for 'Move Ya Hips' after a strong online campaign helped them earn the top spot on the US iTunes sales chart. The song 'Move Ya Hips' had a long and checkered history with fans of the hip-hop stars, with even rapper A$AP Rocky recently lending his voice to the chorus that demanded that the song see an eventual release date.

'Move Ya Hips' features the talents of A$AP Ferg, Nicki Minaj, DJ Clue (Minaj's longtime collaborator) and Atlanta-based rapper MadeinTYO, but the short two-and-a-half-minute song almost never saw the light of day. You can check out the work-out themed music video below, which finally dropped a week ago on July 30.

The track had initially been previewed online by DJ Clue as a mini snippet back in May during an Instagram Live session, and many people got excited when they heard Nicki Minaj's fire verse on the track. Most people assumed that the song had been scrapped when it didn't officially drop after a long dry spell, but A$AP Ferg later confirmed that the song would be released "sooner than soon" for his rabid fans.

The release was also confirmed when MadeinTYO posted an extended clip featuring his own contributions to the song on his Twitter account. The rapper had also posted an explanation as to why the track was getting delayed when he remarked, "Me and A$AP Ferg going to drop our track first. If you run it up & chart that record when we drop! I'm sure they won't have a problem dropping this soon."

Nicki Minaj also took it upon herself to get her Barbz fanbase involved, asking them to beg A$AP Ferg en masse to release the song. The rap queen had posted in a since-deleted tweet: "Y’all gotta light up Ferg comments everyday if you want MYH" and fans duly obliged. The demand was so overwhelming that even A$AP Rocky implored his friend to drop the joint feature. ""SUMBODY TELL @ASAPferg2 DROP DAT S*** WIT HIM N NICKI ASAP" the rapper had tweeted on July 26. Four days later, A$AP Ferg's guest-laden song 'Move Ya Hips' finally released, much to everyone's relief.

But now fans needed to get it to the No.1 spot, which prompted a strong online campaign from the Barbz fanbase. The explicit version of the track eventually reached #1 on the US iTunes sales chart as of Wednesday morning and the clean version of the song also peaked at #6 on the all-genre chart.

On Thursday night, one fan exclaimed, "YALL GO BUY MOVEYAHIPS WITH NICKI MINAJ ON US ITUNES NOWWWWWWW we’re currently dark green update which is GREAT pooh that means sales are slowing and we only need 43% more to reach #1 and 9% for #2 omfg go buy it NOW Comment “Move Ya Hips Finale” as much as possible!"

Even stars like Yung Miami, CupcakKe and Cuban Doll were throwing their support behind the campaign to secure 'Move Ya Hips' a strong finish as the weekend arrived. Yung Miami confirmed she had purchased 'Move Ya Hips' when asked by a fan, while both CupcakKe and Cuban Doll added their voices to the online sales drive which was termed the "Move Ya Hips Finale."

Well done to A$AP Ferg and Nicki Minaj (and their fans) for their genius timing, because it looks like this track will have fans buzzing all weekend long.
