'Red, White & Royal Wedding' confirms Alex and Prince Henry's return, but with a surprising plot twist
FirstPrince fans, you might want to sit down for this one. Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry are officially back, and yes, it's really happening. 'Red, White & Royal Wedding', the follow-up to Prime Video's popular rom-com 'Red, White & Royal Blue', has started filming. The announcement came with the kind of charm you'd expect from Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine. Smiles. Teasing. On January 18, the film's official social media accounts dropped a short video featuring the two leads. The clip casually confirms that cameras are rolling while also giving fans a few "blink and you'll miss it" glimpses from the sequel.
It wasn't just a "we're back" moment either. The clip came with a reveal that set timelines racing and group chats buzzing. The word "wedding" is right there in the title, after all. Naturally, fans assumed Alex and Henry were about to walk down the aisle. However, Zakhar Perez clarified in the video that the wedding in question isn't theirs. The actual wedding belongs to Princess Bea, Henry's sister. He clarified, "Not getting married," and Galitzine jumped in with "That's a long way off." That detail lines up with material fans already know exists. Author Casey McQuiston never released a full sequel novel, but a bonus chapter was included in the collector's edition of 'Red, White & Royal Blue'.
That chapter takes place years later and is told from Henry's point of view. Alex and Henry are engaged, living together in a Brooklyn brownstone that Henry bought after retiring from royal duties. Then, by the end, they decide to move to Austin, Alex's hometown. The movie sequel is expected to pull inspiration from that extra chapter, though it's clearly choosing its own path as well. The decision to center part of the story around Bea's wedding keeps Alex and Henry together without rushing them toward a finish line fans already know exists somewhere down the road. Behind the scenes, the excitement sounds very real.
A few months before filming began, McQuiston spoke with Swooon about the cast returning, saying, "Everybody is super excited to reprise their roles. I think a lot of them really formed these amazing bonds the first time around and are just excited to see each other again." The original film debuted in 2023 and followed Alex, the First Son of the United States, and Henry, a British prince bound by tradition. In it, they stumbled from rivals to lovers, all while trying to keep their relationship hidden from the world. By the end, secrecy was off the table, and love won. Prime Video officially gave the sequel the green light in October 2025, and things moved quickly after that.
Once Zakhar Perez was spotted in London, the Film and Television Industry Alliance confirmed production had begun there on January 19. Even though the first movie closed out in Texas, it's clear there's still unfinished business across the Atlantic. Sarah Shahi, who appeared in the first film as a political figure, fanned the flames last fall. Speaking on the Emmys red carpet in September 2025, she confirmed, "There's more stuff regarding 'Red, White & Royal Blue' that's coming down the pipeline as well." Later, she told Entertainment Weekly that the sequel was happening "and then some." Her comment has boosted rumors about whether this story might stretch beyond just one more film.
