Atlanta's music community was hit by a shocking loss after rapper Archie Eversole was confirmed to have died on April 13, 2022. The iconic rapper was just 37 at the time of his passing, leading to a flood of tributes on social media. Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9FM confirmed his passing, reportedly based on information from Eversole's family.

Eversole joins a long list of rappers to have died in 2022, most of whom have succumbed to gun violence. Wavy Navy Pooh was shot at a Miami, Florida intersection on January 14. Then on February 3, upcoming rapper Tdott Woo was fatally shot outside his home in New York City, just hours after he signed his first record contract. Days later on February 26, 36-year-old Snootie Wild was also shot and killed in Houston, Texas.

Eversole first went mainstream as a 17-year-old, after releasing his album 'Ride Wit Me Dirty South Style' in 2002. In part, that album was certified gold thanks to 'We Ready', a song that has since become a popular sports anthem all over the country. Eversole went on to cement himself in the sports industry after being tapped by Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United to pen the 2018 team anthem 'United We Conquer'.

How did Archie Eversole die?

The cause of the rapper's death was not revealed by Hot 107.9FM, nor has it been published by any other media organization. The radio station simply reported, "close sources to Archie Eversole’s family have confirmed that the ATL rapper has passed away." It's unclear where he was when he passed away as well. All the information is expected to come out in the following hours and days.

His last public appearance was on March 1, at an Atlanta United game where he was snapped with several other fans. Days after that, Eversole tweeted, "I wonder who could help me make a super dope #WEREADY #NFTCommunity #NFT any ideas ??" Tragically, he won't be able to see that idea come to life.

News of his passing has quickly gone viral on social media, leading many to pay tribute to the iconic rapper. Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III tweeted, "The man who gave us “We Ready, the greatest Game Day anthem ever, has passed away at 37 years old. Rest In Peace Archie Eversole. Prayers up to his family and loved ones." Another user mourned, "Rest In Peace, ⁦@archieeversole⁩. Absolute man of the people..." A third said, "RIP Archie Eversole. We Ready has been the soundtrack to my nights, weekends, and ATL UTD match days for years & was the first song I played for my son before his first Five Stripes experience at MBS. His presence has had huge impact on our city/culture. Condolences to his family."

"Damn 2022 has taken Atlanta's Finest Rapper, Archie Eversole... RIP Archie Eversole," one fan mourned. Another tweeted, "RIP @archieeversole Always so kind, always a smile on your face. Sports team fans around the world will sing your anthem for years to come, but it will forever mean something extra special to #ATLUTD fans. Like you always told me, “it’s OUR (ATL) song!”" One person said, "Damn RIP to Archie Eversole, the man who changed high school football games especially forever with “We Ready.” Rest in Power, brother."
