BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: New York's gun violence claimed yet another victim on February 2, 2022. Reports say upcoming rapper Tdott Woo was fatally shot and killed outside his home on Avenue L near E 98th St. in Canarsie. Tragically, the incident occurred just hours after he signed his first record contract, which would have seen him go mainstream after initially gaining fame for the 'Woo Walk' dance move.

Woo joins a long list of rappers to die suddenly in 2022, even though the year has just begun. On January 14, Wavy Navy Pooh was shot at a Miami intersection while in a car with two kids. The same day, Houston native Sad Frosty died, but it's unclear what was the cause of death. On January 1, Florida rapper J $tash was found dead in a reported murder-suicide, where he shot a woman he was believed to be dating.

As with most shootings, it's unclear as of now what the motive was, and if Woo was even the intended target. NYPD is investigating the crime and has so far confirmed that a suspect fled the scene in a dark SUV. The make, model, and exact color have not been revealed, with the investigation still in its early stages.

How did Tdott Woo die?

The 22-year-old rapper, whose real name is Tahjay Dobson, was fatally shot four times just outside his Brooklyn home. "It seems like somebody called him and he went outside. I hear the four shots, three in his back and one in his head I think. It was boom, boom, boom, boom, very quick rapid shots," revealed Woo's grandmother in an emotional interview with NY Daily News

While not wanting to be named, the woman said that she went outside to see Woo "bleeding out." "He was out there alone, and I started to cry and call 911," she recounted. First responders took Woo to the Brookdale University Hospital, where he was declared dead. As a result of the shooting, she said, "I couldn’t even get sleep last night," and mourned her grandson as "a good, good kid".

Reportedly, Woo always had a "passion for music," and was quickly climbing up the city's music scene. The day before he was shot, Woo had returned from Los Angeles where he went to sign a record deal with Million Dollar Music. The label confirmed his death via Instagram, adding a series of his photos with the caption, "It's an honor to remain your friend until your last moments... Your memories will always stay with us no matter where we go & what we do."

The exact terms of the deal were unclear, but it was Woo's first-ever professional contract. Before the deal, Woo was perhaps best known for his 'Woo Walk' dance move, and for appearing in Pop Smoke's 'Big Drip' music video in 2019. He was also featured in the dance tutorial for 'Bop It' by Fivio Foreign in October 2020. Tributes have now begun to pour in for Woo, as friends, family, and fans all mourn the loss of a very talented musician who had a bright future.
