LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY: Larry Birkhead, the ex-husband of Anna Nicole Smith, accompanied their 15-year-old daughter Dannielynn to the Barnstable Brown Gala in Louisville on May 5, the night before the Kentucky Derby. For the father-daughter duo, the occasion was particularly significant because it was at the 2003 Barnstable Brown Gala where Nicole Smith first met Larry. Dannielynn and her father have long been regulars at the yearly beano, and this year they paid tribute to the teen's late mother in a special way.

On Larry's Instagram, Dannielynn was seen wearing a 'Guess' shirt covered in images of her late mother Nicole Smith from the actress's own modeling campaigns. The father-daughter duo doesn't enjoy being in the spotlight because of the public interest in Dannielynn's late mother, who died in 2007 at the age of 39. The 50-year-old claimed that he and Dannielynn use their annual trip to Churchill Downs as a chance to share updates about their lives with followers and "have some fun at the same time," reported E! 'Can’t believe Dannielynn is almost 17'

The teen daughter honored her late mother by wearing a shirt with images from Nicole Smith's Guess campaign to the Kentucky Derby Eve Gala. Dannielynn also looked stunning in the jewelry from the late model. In 1992, Nicole Smith was chosen to represent the clothing line, launching the budding young model to global fame, as per Daily Mail.

In two pictures her father uploaded on his Instagram page, Dannielynn, who looked exactly like her mother Nicole, smiled while posing on Larry's arm. "Heading to the annual Barnstable-Brown Derby Eve Gala. Tonight is the 20th anniversary where I met Dannielynn’s Mom at the same event," Larry wrote in the caption.

Larry captioned another Instagram post, "More Barnstable-Gala pre-party pics. Can’t believe Dannielynn is almost 17. Time for a great Derby weekend." He highlighted that Dannielynn was sporting the jewelry she acquired from Nicole while providing an extensive list of fashion credits at the bottom of the caption.

'Anna was blowing me kisses'

The father-daughter duo attends the Kentucky Derby every year. On the first Saturday in May, Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky, hosts the yearly horse racing occasion. This year is the 20th anniversary of Larry and Anna Nicole's first encounter at the Barnstable Brown Gala, which he was assigned to document as an amateur photographer.

"I met Anna first in 2003 and she blew me kisses. I was intrigued by her but we didn't have too much interaction," he said candidly. "She came back the next year and she had totally transformed. I always thought she was so beautiful. She has a unique look. But when she returned to the Derby in 2004 she was in her tip top shape." The dashing single father recalled: "She was blowing me kisses, but I thought she was doing that for everyone. Being flirtatious for the camera. I never thought that she would want some guy like me from Kentucky when she could have any guys she wants."

They had a live-in relationship until Anna Nicole abruptly left for the Bahamas many months into her pregnancy with Dannielynn. She split up with Larry in the midst of a legal battle over the $30 million she claimed was given to her by her late, wealthy husband J Howard Marshall, who died in a very brief marriage when she was just 26 and he was 89. They were married barely 14 months before he died.

'Beautiful like her mother'

Fans and followers gushed over Dannielynn's outfit that features the late model's 'Guess' images. One fan commented on Larry's Instagram post saying, "Wow- this took my breath away for a second!
