Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith's death at just 39 shocked the world.

An investigation into her death revealed that she had nine different prescription drugs in her system when she was found dead in a Florida hotel room in 2007.

Larry Birkhead and Smith dated for two years and shared a daughter who was five months old at the time of Smith's death.

Birkhead recently got candid about the new documentary focusing on their relationship. While appearing on 'Good Morning America' on Tuesday, Birkhead shared that he had never spoken about the love between him and Smith before. "For so long I had people kind of telling my story. They said, 'This is an opportunity to tell it from your perspective and I said, 'Are you sure you got the right people? Because our love story was so up and down."

Birkhead revealed that he and Smith had a two-year-long affair. Even though the two were in a romantic relationship, they got into a custody battle for their daughter Dannielynn.

Birkhead wasn't the only one vying to prove that he was the father. There were reportedly eight men who claimed to be the girl's father including Smith's personal attorney Howard K Stern.

However, Birkhead proved that he was the father after taking a paternity test.

He added that, in the documentary, people will get to see never-seen-before moments with Smith. This includes the first time that the couple had met at the Barnstable Brown Kentucky Derby party. "We went back through the vaults and of all the tapes and archives... You'll see when sparks flew and you'll also hear about when dishes flew and everything else in between," Birkhead shared.

"You'll also hear Anna for the first time publicly acknowledge that we were in a relationship because I didn't get that... I was always behind the scenes so it was important for me. Not just to share it with the audience and the viewers, but also to hope that my daughter sees this one day," he continued.

The documentary 'Hopelessly in Love: Anna Nicole Smith and Larry Birkhead' premieres on Friday, January 17 at 9 p.m. EST/PST on Lifetime.
