LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: With the fake celebrity death prank going viral on TikTok, a number of videos have been going around of people pranking their relatives and friends with shocking celebrity deaths. The most recent one is of 64-year-old veteran actress Angela Bassett’s son Slater, 16, pranking her by saying that Michael B Jordan had died. Despite going viral, the video received tons of backlash prompting the teenager to swiftly issue an apology later on.

The teenager filmed his parents’ reaction to the prank and posted the now-deleted video to TikTok. In the 20-second video, The 'Black Panther' actress and her husband Courtney B Vance, 62, seemed visibly shocked as he broke the "news" to them. He was heard asking his mother, “Did you hear this: Michael B Jordan dead at 35?” as she immediately reacts in shock.

The ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ actress was seen putting her hand on her chest while her jaw dropped. The actress, who was clearly at a loss for words, set her water bottle down while Vance was heard saying, “Stop it. You’re playing,” as she comes over to her son quickly. She was seen being in denial about the news as she continually says, "Uh-uh," as she approaches Slater. The video comes to an end with Bassett snatching her son’s phone away.

It should be noted that the 'Black Panther' cast had been devastated when Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular character, died of cancer.

The internet was not happy with the prank either. One user tweeted a video of a child getting pushed off a table aggressively with the caption, “Angela Bassett & Courtney to their son as soon as he ended the recording for his prank video.” Another user tweeted, “This whole “trend” is diabolical. Why is it *funny* to see your parents show emotion & grief? The worst part of this is this is Angela Bassett and she knows the person her son is *joking* about. And then you post it? I’d have to cut off some money for a while. Joke on that.”

One other user slammed those who were sending death threats to the teenager while also acknowledging the situation, saying, “Angela bassett’s son celeb death prank on her was distasteful bc she actually knows these people.. but he’s a teenager and i think y’all sending him threats and weird messages is equally distasteful.” A fourth user had said, “Celebrity death trend on TikTok sucks. I hate that Angela Bassett’s son did that to her. Not even worth RTing.” Another user expressed their shock as well, “Angela Bassett’s son really took his phone out, hit the record button and thought this would be funny ?”

Slater tried to smooth things over and own up to his mistake. Soon after, he posted a video to Instagram, apologizing to Jordan and his family and his own parents for ‘any hurt he may have caused,’ and also said this was a lesson for everyone on social media to be careful about what they did and what they posted.
