How to watch Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthday concert from 1998 featuring Antonio Banderas, Elaine Paige and more
A little bit of Andrew Lloyd Webber this weekend is set to make your time a tad bit better. Well, a lot better.
The music composer, who recently celebrated his 72nd birthday on March 22, is entertaining us with his music yet again, even if it is through our weekends spent at home. Webber is going to go live on his popular YouTube channel, 'The Shows Must Go On'. A recording of his 50th birthday celebration from 1998 (which took place at Royal Albert Hall in London, England) will be shown.
For theatre fans, instead of watching one show this weekend, Webber is offering a plethora of songs from across his shows on this birthday celebration concert. And the best part about the online concert is that you can watch it for free.
The video being shared on his YouTube channel features performances of some of his most popular songs — 'Memory' from 'Cats', 'Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina' from 'Evita' and 'The Music of the Night' from 'The Phantom of the Opera'.
All songs are performed by theatre stars — Antonio Banderas, Elaine Paige, Donny Osmond, Glenn Close and Sarah Brightman to name a few.
This is the first time that Webber is sharing a concert as a part of his 'The Shows Must Go On' series. In the past, he has shared the musicals 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat', 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'The Phantom of the Opera' and its sequel 'Love Never Dies' on his YouTube channel.
The global coronavirus pandemic hasn't been kind to theatres, art and artists as institutions across the world remain shut. Yet, there are those who wish to continue to keep the interest in arts alive. Since the lockdown was brought into effect across the world, Webber has been uploading a new show every week to ensure that he keeps theatre fans going as Broadway and local theatres continue to remain shut.
Webber's Royal Albert Hall birthday celebration is available to watch now on YouTube.
You can watch the entire video below. It is available for only a limited period of 48 hours, or you can check it out on 'The Show Musts Go On' YouTube channel starting today at 2/1c. It will be available to watch through Sunday (May 3) and will be eventually taken down.
