'Nothing sincere': Andrew Callaghan slammed for 's**tty' apology amid sexual misconduct allegations

Callaghan said he hadn’t realized he was exhibiting 'sex pest behavior', adding that he wanted 'to be fully accountable for everything that I’ve done'

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: Andrew Callaghan has finally broken his silence addressing the stemming allegations of sexual misconduct. The newly-fledged documentary filmmaker posted an apology video on YouTube on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Callaghan began by thanking “every single person who’s came out in the past week to speak about different ways in which my behavior has made them feel uncomfortable.”

Callaghan said he hadn’t realized he was exhibiting “sex pest behavior,” adding that he was seeking “to do better and be fully accountable for everything that I’ve done.” However, several collaborators and supporters of Callaghan have dropped him amid the sexual misconduct allegations. Comedian Tim Heidecker who was also serving as producer on Callaghan's documentary 'This Place Rules', claimed he has "no plans" to work with Callaghan.

The former 'All Gas No Breaks' host continued his apology by saying, “It’s never easy to speak out, and it was hard for me to hear as well.” He added, “To be honest with you, up until this point, I didn’t even really realize that I had this pattern that had affected multiple people. I’d also like to apologize for my silence. I think that when this stuff first came out, I was in a state of denial and shock.” Callaghan further stated that he plans to begin therapy, join Alcoholics Anonymous, and take “a serious step back from public life.”

Despite the video, users on the internet were not pleased and slammed Callaghan's apology. One user wrote, "Andrew Callaghan apology video ticks all the sex pest apology video checklis boxes. Nothing sincere sounding at all."

Another added, "What really gets me with the Andrew Callaghan situation, is that some of the people who came forward said that they tried to reach out to him. For a conversation and an apology. And that a**hole just ran away and didn’t want to engage."

Another stated, "He used every bit of language to minimize what he did 'I was being persistent' 'It was rape culture' 'It was alcohol' 'There's more to the story you don't know' ALL of those things are meant to give you, the viewer, some justification for your mental gymnastics. #AndrewCallaghan."

Another chimed, "This is a man acknowledging his wrongs and wanting to work with societal expectations in order to avoid future harm. What would you want him to say specifically? What do you want to happen?"

"Andrew callaghan making a new channel and posting a s**tty apology on it is f**king insane. he has less than 1k subs on this channel and starts it with focusing on his spiral. it's not up to me to accept his apology, that's for his victims, but it is NOT a good look," claimed a user.

"Well, not really much else he can do at this point. None of the women filed police charges or accused him of anything more than harassment. Acknowledging his mistakes and owning to it is probably the best thing he could do. Can only wait to see how his accusers will view this," read a tweet.
