SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Blackpink has been chosen as Time magazine's Entertainer of the Year for 2022, becoming the second K-pop band to earn the honor after BTS, who received the honor in 2020. The four-member K-pop group, which consists of Jennie Kim, Jisoo, Lalisa Manobal (Lisa), and Rose, was picked by YG Entertainment, a renowned South Korean record company that vigorously trains and screens musicians.

In Time magazine's feature honoring the Entertainer of the Year, the girl group looked back at their journey till now, from performing at Coachella in 2019 to singing 'Pink Venom' at the VMAs earlier this year. Lead vocalist Jennie said, "We put in a lot of work so we could look like superwomen. We're very normal girls, at the end of the day." She stated that the girl group plays from the heart despite the pressures that come with their popularity. "If we consider this in the business way, we wouldn't be able to do this," Jennie said. The group received rapid international acclaim after making its debut in 2016. Their debut album titled 'The Album' sold more than a million copies after its release in 2020 in less than a month.

Blackpink fans have shown them a lot of love and sent them many warm messages in response to the news that they have been selected as Time magazine's Entertainer of the Year for 2022. One fan tweeted, "So so proud of my girls. You've come a very long way. Through hardships and adversities you girls triumph and become the biggest girl group in the world."

Another delighted fan wrote, "Well deserved! TIME's Entertainer of the Year! They've dominated Music, Fashion, Brand Endorsements, even K-Drama (Jisoo), Variety shows amd Documentaries. So excited on what's next with them!" Many more Blackpink fans praised the girl group for its success.

Along with congratulatory messages, some social media users, who were ignorant of the K-Pop group's fame, also raised some eyebrows by questioning about who they were until fans enlightened them. One person tweeted, "Who? Must not have had much to choose from. Never heard of them," to which a fan responded, "The biggest girl band group in the world now."

One individual wrote, "Props to their PR people, because the only times I’ve ever even heard of them are in obviously paid-for puff pieces like this." To which, a Blackpink fan responded, "They are extremely popular and they sold out stadiums for their world tour in minutes. a quick google search will give you that information."

The K-Pop group's eclectic roots contribute to a part of their international success. Rosé, who was born and raised in New Zealand, said in the studio that it is "a plus" that they all come from "different cultures."
