'American Idol' Season 18: Cyniah Elise's rendition of Adele's 'All I ask' sees her sail into Hollywood week

There were shades of Jennifer Hudson in her rendition and when the teenager walked off the stage after her turn, all the judges had just one word - 'Wow!'

The latest season of 'American Idol' premiered on Monday night, March 16, and already, we're starting to separate the cream from the rest of the crop. The audition rounds are now over and we've jumped straight into the Hollywood phase of the competition. Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie have been given carte blanche to start eliminating whoever they feel is not good or talented enough to be the next 'American Idol', so it's time for the contestants to bring their A-game. It's going to be a really tough decision, considering there's a lot of prime-time talent to be found throughout this year's lineup. 

To make matters worse (or better, depending on how you see it), the contestants were asked to pick their own genre, like singer-songwriter, soul or country, in order to both showcase their talents and to see how they fared against other aspiring 'Idol' hopefuls in their category.



 

One of the singers who fared better than most was the young Cyniah Elise, a talented young black singer from the great state of Georgia. Buoyed by the support of her numerous family members, the young 17-year-old brushed aside her nerves and absolutely nailed her first Hollywood performance. 

Singing 'All I Ask' by Adele is a tall order for any young female singer, but Cyniah sang her heart out, easily taking on the lofty highs and delicate portions that the song requires. There were shades of Jennifer Hudson in her rendition and when the teenager walked off stage, all the judges had just one word "Wow!" It's clear that the youngster is going to have her name up in the lights in the not-too-distant future, so the jury had no hesitation in giving her the green light for the next round in Hollywood, along with other fan-favorites such as Kay Genyse and Bilaal Avaz. 

And her fans on social media were certainly trumpeting their approval. "That girl can flat out sing! Wow!" said one awestruck fan, while another viewer gushed, "Cyniah’s performance has me in tears. It was so good." We're really looking forward to seeing what Cyniah's pipes can do in the next few stages of the singing competition.
