'American Idol Reunion': Fans slam Laine Hardy's appearance, say he should've sang 'Creep'

Over the span of twenty glorious seasons, 'American Idol' managed to discover several superstars such as Kely Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, etc. So, to celebrate this huge milestone of twenty seasons, the showrunners organized a 'Idol Reunion'. This hour-long special episode featured previous winners and fan-favorite contestants taking the stage and reminiscing about their seasons.

The first winner to take on the stage during the reunion special episode was none other than 'American Idol' 2019 winner Laine Hardy and fellow contestant Laci Kaye Booth. Though the duo managed to put on a jaw-dropping performance to 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around', fans, unfortunately, couldn't enjoy it much owing to Laine's recent arrest. The 'American Idol' alum was put behind bars after he was accused of spying on his ex by installing audio recording devices in her room without her knowledge.

Fans began questioning why he was on the ABC show. A fan tweeted, "Why is Laine Hardy, who was recently accused of bugging his girlfriend’s dorm room, on #AmericanIdol?" "Wait, so #AmericanIdol are just going to put Laine Hardy on without even addressing his recent arrest? I’m confused by this. He was arrested, right?" wondered a fan. "I am surprised that American Idol brought Laine Hardy back on despite his arrest & the investigation. #AmericanIdol," wrote a fan. "Laine should’ve sang “Creep”. #AmericanIdol," joked a fan.

Though the showrunners kept flashing the message that the segment was taped prior to his arrest, fans were still amused with their decision to air the footage of his performance. Another fan shared, "So we are just fine with letting this Laine Hardy footage air and not editing this out? A little weird. #AmericanIdol." "Honestly shocked that Laine Hardy is in tonight’s episode of American after being arrested on Friday…#americanidol," expressed a fan. "Oh hey, it's Laine. The dude who was just arrested for stalking and harassing his ex. I know this is pre-taped. But yikes. #AmericanIdol," commented a fan. "Previously recorded before we knew laine Hardy was a creep” #americanidol," pointed out a fan. 

'American Idol' Season 20 airs every Sunday and Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
