'American Horror Story: 1984' episode 3: Montana's twisted sexual romanticizing sees her make out with an unexpected person

We thought Montana was obsessed with Brooke, but turns out Margaret wasn't the only one aken with Richard Ramirez.
UPDATED OCT 3, 2019

This article contains spoilers for season 9, episode 3: 'Slashdance'.

Remember when we all thought Margaret Booth was the baddie aiding Mr. Jingles in unleashing a second round of horror on Camp Redwood? And then we saw her bonding with Mr. Foot Fetish aka the Night Stalker aka Richard Ramirez in the second episode inspiring him to kill Jingles! Well, all our theories have been debunked thanks to episode 3 of 'American Horror Story: 1984' because spoilers alert, Nurse Rita is Mr. Jingles' aide, and on an even more shocking note -- Montana, who has been pretty much obsessed with Brooke Thompson ever since this camp trip began, is actually aiding Ramirez in murdering Brooke. Could this show get any more twisted? (Actually, it can, it's Ryan Murphy, d'uh.)

The entire third episode focuses on the dreadful night of the anniversary of Jingles's massacre 14 years ago. People dress up as the killer and go around messing with other 'townies' by scaring them with borderline creepy, disgusting, and terrifying pranks. Amidst all of this, Montana and Brooke get separated into two groups; Montana is with Trevor and Xavier, and Brooke is with Ray, Chet, and Nurse Rita. As each group is trying to find the other, in the end, Trevor and Xavier meet up with sword-impaled-Chet and saves him from the ditch he had fallen into, while Montana meets up with Ray and the two find that Brooke and Rita are missing from where Ray had last left them.

At this point, as the two groups are trying to figure out how best to contact the others and save their own asses, Ramirez appears from behind the bushes. Ray identifies him as the guy who had attacked him earlier in the night and grabs the nearest motorbike and flees deserting Montana in the presence of a cold-blooded serial killer. Sure, the tension between Montana and Ramirez was off the charts, and knowing her freaky ways and how easily the show has already romanticized and sexualized the killer once, we expected the two would break into a bloody makeout session, but the whole "why haven't you killed her yet?" from Montana, directed at Ramirez was totally unexpected!

We know that over the summer Brooke was attacked by Ramirez and he followed her to the camp to finish what he started, but all this time we thought Montana was just this very fashionable bisexual girl totally infatuated with Brooke's uncanny naivete. Sure it's possible that she, in some sick, twisted, wet dream, imagines being united with Brooke forever and evermore in death, or maybe she is just annoyed by Brooke and wants her killer boyfriend to murder her for some twisted adrenaline rush. So far all we know is Montana and Ramirez are a thing and let's just hope this is where the romanticizing of serial assaulters and rapists ends!

'American Horror Story: 1984' airs on Wednesdays at 10pm/9c only on FX.
