'American Horror Story: 1984': Steamy and bloody threesome opening is Ryan Murphy's nod to signature slasher horror

We are not saying a threesome should end in murder but American Horror Story: 1984 doesn't make it seem all that bad either.

This article contains spoilers for season 9, episode 1.

Ryan Murphy's extremely twisted and increasingly creepy brainchild 'American Horror Story' is back with its ninth season, '1984', and following the name, it doesn't wait around when it comes to classic horror tropes.

The debut episode of season 9, titled 'Camp Redwood' begins with two women getting real cozy under the blankets inside a possible camp-house filled with other people. Come to think of it, there has hardly been any horror of the slasher sub-genre that has not started with the signature make-out or a sex scene with an eerie air of impending doom surrounding two young people getting down and dirty. From 'Scream', to 'Cabin in the Woods' -- it's always young love being butchered by a crazed maniac that slasher horror opens with, and 'AHS:1984' doesn't steer far from that.

But of course, this is Murphy and his ambitious ways come into play because the lesbian action is soon revealed to be an actual threesome. Not like we were expecting anything different, but still. It's always a little creepy to watch young people indulging in explicit content, while you as a viewer just know that all that pleasure is not going to last long. And so horror strikes right in the middle, as the only male in the threesome slides up from underneath the sheets, and the cabin door opens.

One of them hears a 'jingling' sound but they don't heed because it's almost as if characters in horror films and shows have never heard of the genre. The three continue with their kissing and undressing, and while one of the women takes off her shirt, she sees her other two partners get stabbed to death. Cinematic mastery aside, that introduction of Mr. Jingles is pure awesome, and if you think it stops there, there's more: the onlooker of the double murder soon meets the same fate and how! She gets stabbed in her eye. Too much of a treat for blood and gore fans, right? With a premiere this successful at establishing the intrinsic slasher essence of the season, one can only wonder what else Murphy has in store for us!

'American Horror Story: 1984' airs every Wednesday at 9pm on FX.
