The highlight of the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards were all the nominees for 'Entertainer of the Year' including Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Luke Combs and Thomas Rhett. However, the award saw a tie between Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood, and for the first time in the history of the ACM, the top honor went to two winners.

Although the event ended on a rather different note by declaring two winners for the 'Entertainer of the Year' award, some fans were left wondering what was the need to honor two artistes. One tweeted, "Very very very happy for Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood. I love them both. BUT...a woman hasn’t won EOTY in how long? And she has to share the title? There’s never been a tie. Why now?"

Adding to the previous tweet, another wrote, "2020 finding new ways to be weird: for the first time in history, there is a TIE for the #ACMs Entertainer of the Year—Thomas Rhett AND Carrie Underwood both win the night’s top honor!" Another tweeted, "A tie for EOTY? WTF? Too bad there wasn’t a live audience, the noise would’ve been overwhelming! @ThomasRhett and @carrieunderwood but she wins it all with that dress! #ACMs"

Meanwhile, some fans congratulated both the singers on their well-deserved win. One tweeted, "It really is 2020... A tie for Entertainer I’d the Year! Congratulations  to Carrie Underwood & Thomas Rhett for winning co-entertainers of the year! Two people who definitely deserved it." Another said, "Both legends."

The 2020 ACM is underway in Nashville, Texas. The event was originally scheduled to take place on April 5 from Las Vegas, Nevada, but had to be pushed for months due to the coronavirus-induced pandemic. The much-awaited event was finally broadcast live from three country music venues — The Grand Ole Opry House, The Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe, on September 16 while taking into consideration the social distance protocol.

The AMC 2020 saw none other than the ever-talented Keith Urban as its host. To make the occasion more interesting, Taylor Swift returned to the ACM stage after seven years to deliver a performance of her latest song 'Betty' from her album 'Folklore'. Other performers graced the stage during the award ceremony including Blake Shelton featuring Gwen Stefani, Kane Brown, Tim McGraw, Kelsea Ballerini, Florida Georgia Line and more, while Urban and Pink deliver the world television premiere of their brand new collaboration 'One Too Many'.
