'The unsmoked cigarette in the clean ashtray': Johnny Depp fans call pic of tampon applicator 'staged'
Johnny Depp's prior drug usage has been a hot subject in the defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. In court on Monday, May 16, Amber Heard explained why a tampon applicator was placed in a photo that had previously sparked discussion on Twitter.
A photo given to the court in early May that reportedly showed proof of Depp's drug usage was brought up again in court again, with Heard stating that the tampon applicator in the picture was something Depp supposedly used to snort cocaine. During her cross-examination, the 'Aquaman' actress, 36, stated that her sister Whitney Henriquez taught Depp how to snort cocaine with a tampon applicator. The photo was shown again, and it appeared to show four lines of cocaine neatly spread out on a table, with the tampon applicator nearby. Henriquez, Heard's younger sister, is expected to take the stand at a later stage in the trial.

Here's why Johnny Depp AVOIDS eye-contact with Amber Heard, as fans weigh in on theory
"When you snort cocaine typically it goes into your nose and then it doesn't stay on the table," Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez stated. "There's residue from that cocaine when your lips and nose touch the table, right?" To which Heard replied, "Well, the tampon applicator next to the driver's license that you see is a device that I believe my sister had taught him to use in order to put the cocaine in." This remark appeared to imply that the powder lines would not be as tidy if Depp had been snorting off the table.
The veracity of the snapshot generated debate on social media earlier this month, with admirers wondering if the lines were faked. A user tweeted the photo and wrote, "It’s the unsmoked cigarette in the clean ashtray for me. She thought she staged the perfect photo, strategically placing items associated with him on the table #DeppVsHeard."

Another user pointed out the difference between the picture shown earlier and the picture that was shown to court on Monday, 16 May. A user tweeted, "Don’t forget about the picture where there is actually NO BOX .. and it’s still up on the page six website."

Users also compared the cocaine powder to crushed sugar and chalk powder.
On Monday, May 16, Heard appeared to back down from her claim that Depp smashed her nose during the 2014 Met Gala when the actor's attorneys produced images of her appearing undamaged taken the next day. Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation after she penned an opinion article for The Washington Post in 2018 about being a victim of domestic abuse. Heard has filed a counter-suit against Depp seeking $100 million in return. The trial is currently being held in Fairfax, Virginia.
