‘He was talking to people who weren’t in the room’
Heard told the court how Depp behaved towards the end of their marriage claiming the actor had started hallucinating and that his sobriety had completely collapsed. “He was talking to people who weren’t in the room”, said the ‘Aquaman’ star. She added, “It was terrifying. It was unclear to me whether he was even mad at me or he was convinced that the guy he said he saw me with was in the room”.
The court was shown a video of Depp slamming cabinets in a kitchen and pouring himself an oversized glass of wine with Heard trying to ascertain why Depp was mad.
Speaking of her divorce, Heard stated, “I would have done anything but I couldn’t do that one thing, I couldn’t stay. The promise and the hope I had became less and less regular and more and more rare.” Reiterating her claims of her ex-husband turning into a 'monster' during his drug binges, she said: “The monster was now the thing that was normal and not the exception. The violence was now normal and not the exception” concluding, “It was so hard but I knew I had to do it… what if he had taken it too far, I wouldn’t be here.”
Amber Heard changes date of when Johnny Depp first hit her: 'I had the date wrong'
Heard had also begun her testimony by saying that the first act of physical violence happened in 2012, not 2013 as she has previously claimed. She was referring to the incident was when Depp allegedly slapped Heard repeatedly when she laughed at his 'Wino Forever' tattoo. Heard said: "You never forget it, that's how I remember it. It changes your life. You never forget the time someone hits you like that. I just had the date wrong." She was asked what made her forget the date then and Heard said: "I am embarrassed to say I would have liked to have believed the period of time I had to fall in love with Johnny and he was sober and he wasn't violent to me lasted a lot longer than it did. I would have liked to have believed I wasn't hit so early in the relationship."
