AMAs 2020: Becky G wins Favorite Female Artist (Latin), elated fans say 'she deserves the whole world'
The 48th American Music Awards is taking place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 22. The award for the Favorite Female Artist (Latin) category was bagged by Becky G. Apart from her, Karol G and Rosalia were also nominated in the category.
Rebbeca Marie Gomez, known as Becky G, first came to the limelight in 2011, when she posted several videos of her singing popular songs on YouTube. One of her performances caught producer Dr Luke's attention who offered her a deal with Kemosabe Records and RCA Records. Her official debut single, 'Becky from the Block' (2013), received a positive response upon its release. She released her debut extended play, 'Play It Again' (2013), later that year. Her second single, 'Can't Get Enough' (2014), featured guest vocals from Pitbull and went on to top the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart in the United States.
The show makers announced earlier this month that 50-year-old 'Hidden Figures' star Taraji P Henson will host the event. “The AMAs bring together the music community to celebrate what really drives all artists – the fans. I’m proud to take the stage as this year’s host — and also a fan — for what promises to be an electrifying night of music," she said in a press release.
As soon as the announcement of Becky G's victory was made, people started reacting to it. One user said, "I've been supporting Becky G for such a long time and nobody deserves this moment more than her. She deserves the whole world if you ask me. #AMAs." While another one said, "becky thanking all immigrant workers and her family specially her grandparents ... im so emotional right now y'all! she deserved this award more than anyone could not be any more proud @iambeckyg #AMAs."
