AMAs 2020: Bad Bunny's ‘YHLQMDLG’ wins Favourite Album in Latin, Internet says 'Latin Grammy robbed him'
While many of us are counting days for the doleful times of the pandemic to be over, cinema, arts, music and the starry awards have come as a respite to cheer us up. The newest addition to the glittery night of awards is the biggest fan-voted music awards — the American Music Awards. Kicking off with some jaw-dropping performances with the talented Taraji P Henson as the host, the awards recognized music legends revered by fans.
The AMAs which honors talents in genres like pop-rock, alternative, country, hip-hop, rap, and others saw Bad Bunny winning the award for Favorite Album in Latin. With a deep, slurred voice and exuding an eclectic fashion sense, Bad Bunny received the award and addressed fans in an online video message. The category had Anuel AA’s ‘Emmanuel’ and Bunny’s ‘Las que no iban a salir’ and ‘YHLQMDLG’ in nominations.

The Puerto Rican singer had four nominations this year. Bunny has an impressive career that started from his breakthrough single ‘Soy Peor’. The artiste shot to stardom with collabs like ‘I Like It’, ‘Mia' and debut album ‘X 100pre’. In the past, Bunny collaborated with popular music stars like Cardi B, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and J Balvin to name some.
His album 'YHLQMDLG' that received the Favorite Album in Latin at the 2020 AMAs became the highest-charting all-Spanish album ever on the US Billboard 200.
The American Music Awards are based on fan interactions that include streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, social activity and touring by the artistes in various categories. Produced by Dick Clark productions, the AMAs are seen in over 200 countries and territories around the world making it one of the most anticipated shows.

The awards were held amid Covid-19 induced restrictions due to which there were very few members in the audience and poster cutouts of big artistes dominated the front seats of the venue. The crew members at the awards had worn masks and followed Covid-19 protocol. Coming to the performances the dancing members are required to have facial masks on during the acts while the lead artistes had PPE on when not on the stage.
The AMAs aired on Sunday, November 22 at 8 pm EST/PST on ABC.
