LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Max's 'Am I OK?' is based on the fact that it can be challenging to navigate adulthood, but what if you come to the realization that everything you believed you knew about yourself was a lie?

The film initially appears to be a friendship tale about two best friends, Lucy (Dakota Johnson) and Jane (Sonoya Mizuno), who are inseparable.

However, things drastically change in their lives when Lucy finds out she is a lesbian. This is where their friendship is put to the test when Jane chooses to support Lucy before she leaves London.

However, as the film goes on, it becomes clear that their friendship is straining when Jane, who is supposed to be Lucy's wingwoman, ends up kissing a woman, which upsets Lucy.

Additionally, Jane's friendship with her colleague Kat (Molly Gordon) makes Lucy insecure, adding to their rift.

Following their dramatic confrontation, Lucy and Jane are no longer on speaking terms, and Lucy's nonchalant birthday greeting to Jane just serves to widen their divide.

Jane's sadness is further compounded when she learns that her boyfriend, Danny (Jermaine Fowler), will not be moving to London with her. Danny remarks that he doesn't want to leave Los Angeles, as it is where he has spent his entire life.

Later, Jane sends Lucy an unsolicited text message as a ruse to get back in touch, but Lucy doesn't reply.

In the next scene, Brittany (Kiersey Clemons) tells Lucy that she is moving to Portland to see her former boyfriend, implying that their sex is a one-time event. It also becomes clear that Brittany felt bad about leaving Lucy as she ends the conversation with a 'Love ya!'

Nonetheless, Lucy appears to be making headway in her life. She first reveals to Ben (Whitmer Thomas), her ex-boyfriend, that she is a lesbian. Ben was encouraging rather than angry with her, and they both enjoyed each other's company.

Subsequently, a montage depicts Lucy accepting her new identity as she creates a dating site profile, embarks on multiple dates with women, and eventually begins to paint again.

On the other hand, Kat's antics are irritating Jane now, as she seems uninterested in the Hammock day out and misses Lucy.

As she began to pack her belongings, she discovered a painting from Lucy and texted her.

The next day, the two best friends get together at a diner, where Jane apologizes for treating her badly. Jane is shocked when Lucy tells her about her affair with Brittany and all of their dates.

Jane also grins with happiness upon learning that Lucy has resumed painting.

Jane presses Lucy to come see her in London as soon as possible, but Lucy assures her that everything will be alright. As the two closest friends carry on their conversation, it seems that they have buried the hatchet.

In the final moments of the film, Lucy arrives to drive Jane to the airport and, to Jane's delight, says that she will be joining her in London, where she will stay for two weeks until Jane settles in, making Jane happy.

As the film comes to a conclusion, the two are seen still chatting and debating where to park Lucy's car.
