The 2020 American Music Awards is airing live from the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater on Sunday, November 22, on ABC from 8 pm ET. The ceremony witnessed The Weeknd winning the award for the Favorite Album – Soul/R&B for his album 'After Hours'. Other nominations in the category included Doja Cat's 'Hot Pink' and Summer Walker's 'Over It'.

'After Hours' is the fourth studio album by The Weeknd. It was released on March 20, 2020, by Republic Records and XO. The album was produced by The Weeknd and many producers, including DaHeala, Illangelo, Max Martin and Metro Boomin. The nominations for all the categories of the award ceremony were announced during the 'Good Morning America' show on October 26. The Weeknd and Roddy Rich bagged eight nominations each that made them the most-nominated artistes of the night.

The show makers announced earlier this month that 50-year-old 'Hidden Figures' star Taraji P Henson will be hosting the event. “The AMAs bring together the music community to celebrate what really drives all artists – the fans. I’m proud to take the stage as this year’s host — and also a fan — for what promises to be an electrifying night of music," she said in a press release.

Sticking to the Covid-19 social distancing guidelines, all artistes such as Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Maluma, The Weeknd, Kenny G, Dua Lipa, Dan + Shay, Megan Thee Stallion, Bad Bunny, Jhay Cortez, Lil Baby, BTS and many more performed at the award ceremony. As soon as the news of The Weeknd's victory made it's way to social media, people started talking about it. One user pointed out at the artiste's bandaged face and wrote, "What’s with the bandages? @theweeknd #AMAs2020." While another wrote, "I think The Weeknd just summed up 2020 for all of us #AMAs."

A fan said, "So is The Weeknd dating Chris Brown or what? If fake injuries and bandages are part of your act/image you might need some professional help. #AMAs." Making fun of his appearance during the show, another one wrote, "when the weeknd took the “I can’t feel my face” part to the next lvl #AMAs."
