The most awaited and biggest fan-voted music awards in the world — the American Music Awards are back. Kicking off with some enthralling performances and with the talented Taraji P Henson as the host, the awards recognized the most deserving artistes in pop-rock, alternative, country, hip-hop, rap and many other categories.

Lady Gaga won the award for Favorite Artist in Electronic Dance Music. The nominees for this category had sensations like Kygo, Lady Gaga and Marshmello who raised the bar of the competition for the title. In the latest version of the award, the ‘Born this Way’ singer became the first woman in history to be nominated in this category and now fans are saying that she “ended men”. This is because the Electronic Dance Music category has always honored men until Gaga’s historic win.

The AMA for Electronic Dance Music category has been given since 2012 with the highest wins accorded to Marshmello, Calvin Harris and The Chainsmokers who bagged 2 wins each. Defined with some galvanic performances that can remind us of throwbacks to nightclubs and raves, this genre is most liked by fans who love the high from percussion and upbeat music.

The American Music Awards are based on fan interactions that include streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, social activity, and touring by the artistes in various categories. The thrilled audience took to social media to celebrate Gaga's historic victory with many fans relating her win to empowerment for women in the music industry.

A fan wrote, “Lady Gaga became the first woman to win the Electronic Dance Music / EDM Artist category at the AMAs is such a slap for men who underestimate women. it gives me the buzz.” Another wrote in praise for Gaga, “Lady Gaga most awarded women alive”. A fan concurred, “WOMEN RULES! congrats my queen.”

The awards were held amid Covid-19 induced restrictions due to which there were very few members in the audience. The crew members at the awards had worn masks and followed the Covid-19 protocol. Coming to the performances, the dancers are required to wear facial masks on during the acts while the lead artists had PPE on when not on the stage.
