Looks can often be deceiving, after all, the saying goes -- 'never judge a book by its cover'. And for the contestants of 'Alter Ego', that quote applies! As per the show's logline, it is a 'Singing competition where contestants reinvent themselves and perform like never before -- as their dream avatar.'

With Alanis Morissette, Nick Lachey, Grimes and will.i.am as the judges, contestants take on digital avatars while showcasing their singing talents. The judges and the audience only see the avatar perform, ensuring that the judging and voting process depends entirely on their performances.

For young Erny Nunez from New York City, who is all of 17 years old, his reason for appearing on the show was to showcase his talent. Nunez mentioned that he is shy, has a babyface, and is often not taken very seriously. So, through his avatar, Bernie Burns, Nunez hoped that he could go ahead and do what he loves. He believes that his singing style fits his avatar perfectly, seeing that he grew up listening to many older classics, which has shaped his music style. He performed Michael Buble's 'Just Haven't Met You Yet', and you can check out his performance here -- "Bernie Burns set the stage on fire tonight.  #AlterEgoFOX"

The judges were pleasantly surprised with Nunez and were all praises for the same. Unfortunately, it was not enough to secure him a spot on the Diamond. Although he did have a strong performance, Nunez found himself in the bottom two and was eliminated at the end of the episode. Before he left, he performed 'The Best Is Yet To Come' by Frank Sinatra.

The audience and the judges were in awe of his voice and just how young he was, with Alanis Morissette assuring him that he was handsome and will.i.am telling him that he was cool too. Twitter believed that Nunez has a bright journey ahead and even if he didn't make the cut 'Alter Ego', his eyes should be on Broadway.

"Sending Bernie Burns home was a MISTAKE but that kid better go straight to broadway. #AlterEgoFOX" tweeted a fan. "#BernieBurns needs a stage in Vegas somewhere. FR #AlterEgoFOX" chimed another. "Bernie Burns should just go on Broadway #AlterEgoFOX" agreed another.

'Alter Ego' kick starts Season 1 with a special two-night premiere event, starting Wednesday, September 22 and Thursday, September 23 at 9/8c on FOX.
