'Alter Ego': Release date, spoilers and all about FOX virtual reality singing show

If you've been on the prowl for a new reality show that breaks away from the norm, then FOX's 'Alter Ego' definitely fits the bill. As per the show's logline, "A singing competition where contestants reinvent themselves and perform like never before -- as their dream avatar."

'Alter Ego' kick starts Season 1 with a special two-night premiere event, starting Wednesday, September 22 and Thursday, September 23, at 9/8c.

As per the show's synopsis, "ALTER EGO is the world's first avatar singing competition series and the next iteration of the musical competition show. On ALTER EGO, lost dreams and second chances are reignited when singers from all walks of life become the stars they've always wanted to be. However, these contestants won't perform as themselves. Rather, they'll be given the chance to show how they've always wanted to be seen, creating their dream avatar ALTER EGO to reinvent themselves while showcasing their unique performance style via motion capture technology. The judge's table features some of the biggest names in music, including iconic singer/songwriter and seven-time Grammy Award winner Alanis Morissette; actor, singer and television personality Nick Lachey; acclaimed Canadian producer, songwriter, singer and visual artist Grimes; and multi-Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, producer, entrepreneur and actor Emmy Award-winning personality Rocsi Diaz will host the musical spectacle. In ALTER EGO, talent and technology come together to create a singing competition unlike anything the world has ever seen."



Alanis Morissette
Alanis Nadine Morissette is a musician, singer, songwriter, and actress. 
Having had a successful music career in the 90s in Canada, she soon moved to Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, and in 1995, she released 'Jagged Little Pill', which sold 33 million copies globally. The album was made into a rock musical that earned a total of 15 Tony Award nominations. Her other albums include 'Under Rug Swept', 'So-Called Chaos', 'Flavors of Entanglement', 'Havoc and Bright Lights' and 'Such Pretty Forks in the Road'. 


Claire Elise Boucher known professionally as Grimes, is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. She began releasing music independently late in the 2000s and began garnering attention with the release of her third studio album, Visions, which went on to win the Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year.


Nick Lachey
Nicholas Scott Lachey is a singer, television personality, and host. 
He was the lead singer of the multi-platinum-selling boyband 98 Degrees and also starred in his own reality show, 'Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica' with his then-wife, Jessica Simpson. He has a number of shows, such as 'The Sing-Off', 'Big Morning Buzz Live', 'America's Most Musical Family' and 'Love is Blind'. He is also the winner of the fifth season of 'The Masked Singer'.
William James Adams Jr known professionally as is a rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and the founding and lead member of the musical group Black Eyed Peas. As a music producer, has worked with the likes of A R Rahman, Cheryl, Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Kesha, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, David Guetta, U2, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Usher, Justin Timberlake and Nicki Minaj. He is also a judge and mentor on 'The Voice UK' and 'The Voice Kids'. 


Rocsi Diaz as the host 
Raquel Roxanne "Rocsi" Diaz professionally know as Rocsi Diaz is a television and radio personality and model. She was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and her family later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from West Jefferson High School in Harvey, Louisiana and later from Nicholls State University. She began her career as the host of 97.9 The Beat in Dallas Texas and she later became a DJ for Boston's Hot 97.7. 
In 2012, she joined Entertainment Tonight as a correspondent and weekend co-host. She later went on to CNN's HLN as the Los Angeles contributor for T'he Daily Share'. 


Executive Producer/ Showrunner

Matilda Zoltowski serves as the show's executive producer and showrunner. Her work includes -- 'Big Brother', 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'Dancing With The Stars'. 
As per her FOX bio -- "Zoltowski has developed and produced many different types of unscripted series that have attracted major talent, including cooking series "The Taste," starring Anthony Bourdain; "Off Their Rockers," with Betty White; "Bring The Funny," with Kenan Thompson and Chrissy Teigen; and "I Can Do That," with Marlon Wayans. Most recently, she served as executive producer for all four seasons of "World of Dance," starring Jennifer Lopez."


With contestants performing backstage while their 'Alter Ego' avatars take on the main stage, FOX's new reality show combines talent with virtual reality to bring you a reality competition, unlike anything you've seen before!
