'Agents of SHIELD' Season 7: An Avengers cameo is exactly what the show needs before taking its final bow

While the stars of the MCU's movie side all do have busy schedules, it would be amazing if we could get at least a cameo by one of them, especially considering this is the last chance the show has to do it

'Agents of SHIELD' is well into its final season and while the show has delivered a lot of great moments, we're still waiting on an appearance by one of the Avengers or another major Marvel Cinematic Universe star. While the stars of the MCU's movie side all do have busy schedules, it would be amazing if we could get at least a cameo by one of them, especially considering this is the last chance the show has to do it.

Season 7's time travel storyline has a lot of potential for guest appearances and we had hoped that someone like Captain America / Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) or the original Ant-Man Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) would have a cameo. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case so far but that could still change. Even though the show generally tends to keep away from the events of the movies, they are in the same universe so it makes sense to have one of the Avengers take notice of what's going on with the team. And with all the trouble that SHIELD has found itself in recently, they could really use some superpowered help.

Plus, none of the Avengers know that Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) survived his death in 'The Avengers'. And even though he did eventually die for real and get replaced by an LMD, that's still a bit of information that we think our heroes deserve to know. After Episode 8 'After, Before', the team has now been thrown into a time storm and that brings up the possibility for a cameo by either Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) or Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), the current Ant-Man. Whether that happens or not is up for debate but we do know we would enjoy even the briefest glimpse of these characters on the show.

Another possibility is that the show could plug in the upcoming Disney+ series 'Loki' by having Tom Hiddleston's mercurial trickster god make an appearance. That series will also feature time travel as a major plot point so it would make sense for Loki to pop into the show, however briefly. With just five episodes left in the season, time is running out for 'Agents of SHIELD' to deliver one last 'Avengers' appearance. Here's hoping it happens sooner rather than later.

'Agents of SHIELD' Season 7 airs on Wednesdays at 10 pm ET on ABC.
