After Michael Nesmith's brush with 'minor health issue', The Monkees end music tour early
Ahead of The Monkees stars' Thursday night performance in Philadelphia, the rock duo was forced to cancel the remaining dates on their 'The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show tour'. The decision was taken after guitarist Michael Nesmith suffered a "minor health issue" just before the scheduled show at the Keswick Theater in Philadelphia on June 21.
While the latest update might spell momentary disappointment for fans looking forward to Nesmith and Micky Dolenz's coming back tour, it won't be long until the duo resumes the shows again at a later date.
In a statement to Billboard, the news of the remaining dates of the tour getting canceled was confirmed.
“Michael Nesmith had a minor health issue today in advance of his tour date in Philadelphia tonight. He visited a local medical facility and, although the issue was not serious, was advised to rest for the next week, so unfortunately the remaining four dates on The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show tour have been postponed until a later date," read the post shared on late Thursday night, according to the website.
"Nesmith has been dismissed from the hospital and is traveling back to his home in Carmel Valley. He is in good spirits and thanks all the fans for their support and understanding. He looks forward to getting back on the stage again soon,” the statement concluded.
Soon after the show getting canceled, though, tour manager Andrew Sandoval shared another update, assuring fans that The Monkees pair would be back performing on stage as early as January next year.
According to reports, the two were scheduled to perform for at least three more nights, excluding the Thursday night's tour date. On Friday, 'The Mike & Micky Show tour' was supposed to rock the Beacon Theatre in New York City, later on Saturday the duo would have serenaded the crowd gathered at the Paramount in Huntington, and finally hit the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J on Monday.
As of now all the four shows remain canceled.
When news broke earlier about the sudden health issues, however, there were whirlwind rumors about the Monkees' guitarist collapsing during a soundcheck at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, Pennsylvania. He was supposedly rushed to the hospital following the incident.
