ACM Awards 2020: Carrie Underwood spills magic with Dolly Parton tribute, fans say 'that dress was gorgeous'

Clad in her gold mini-dress, she got the glitz and glam with her breakup song 'Before He Cheats' and later in the show, followed it up with a grand performance

Without music, life would be a mistake. Amid the pandemic, what’s better than tuning into some breathtaking performances and a fully packed hour of entertainment? 

Billed as Country Music's Party of the Year, the ACM Awards are an annual celebration of the brightest stars and most awe-inspiring achievements within the genre. After a five-month delay due to the pandemic, the Academy of Country Music Awards were held on September 16, 2020, live from Nashville, Tennessee.

The event, hosted by first-time host Keith Urban, has an impressive line-up of performers to celebrate country music's special night and Carrie Underwood left fans breathless. The singer stepped out on stage in a golden dress and another pink gown with rose petals. Clad in her gold mini-dress, she got the glitz and glam with her breakup song 'Before He Cheats' and later in the show, followed it up with more hits during her performance at the Grand Ole Opry. She sang a medley of songs by fellow Opry members Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. 

No wonder, fans couldn't stop talking about her dress. "CAN WE ALL AGREE THAT CARRIE'S DRESS IS BEAUTIFUL AS HECK?!?!?!! #ACMAwards," one tweet read. Another said, "Let’s be honest, carrie underwood looks so stunning #ACMawards." One fan wrote: "The only thing more gorgeous than Carrie's dress is her voice! She was the perfect choice to do that tribute mashup."

"Carrie Underwood can sing ANYTHING!!!!" one tweet read. Another said, "Watching the #ACMawards on @KHOU and 'in Carrie Underwood's performance... a medley of songs from legendary women in country including Dolly Parton." Another said, "The #ACMawards have to have Carrie pay tribute to women in country...since they pretend women not named Miranda or Carrie don’t exist these days." 

One fan posted, "Low key only watching #ACMawards for Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift." Another said, "I still can’t believe I met Carrie at the beginning of this year.. Country Queen since 2005."

Other performers on the ACM award show include Kelsea Ballerini, Gabby Barrett, Riley Green, Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Thomas Rhett featuring Jon Pardi, and Tenille Townes, who will perform at the Ryman. Jimmie Allen, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert featuring songwriters Natalie Hemby and Luke Dick, and Tim McGraw will perform at The Bluebird and Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Mickey Guyton, Taylor Swift, and Morgan Wallen will perform from the Opry. 

The award ceremony is being broadcast on Wednesday, September 16, live from 8 pm to 11 pm on CBS Television Network. It can also be streamed on-demand on CBS All Access.
