LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'A Rose for Her Grave' as poetic as it sounds, it is actually based on the victims aka his wives who Randy Roth killed. This year Lifetime is surprising everyone with its content and especially with the real-life based stories that they are turning into movies. After 'Gwen Shamblin: Starving for Salvation', and 'The Girl Who Escaped: Kara Robinson Story', Lifetime is soon dropping 'A Rose for Her Grave: The Randy Roth Story’. Safe to say, Lifetime is on a roll this year.

Maritte Lee Go helmed Lifetime movie is based on the real-life of the Washington-based serial killer, Randy. It revolves around Cindy (Laura Ramsey), who finally finds love again with mechanic Randy (Colin Egglesfield) but her wedded bliss soon turns dark when she discovers another side of Randy. Despite the pleas of her best friend, Lori (Chrishell Stause), to leave her marriage, Cindy never gets that opportunity after she drowns during a trip to a lake with Randy and her children. Determined to honor Cindy and find the truth, Lori uncovers more of Randy’s past, discovering that Cindy may not have been the first wife murdered at his hands.

Who is Randy Roth?

Randy was one of five children of Gordon and Lizabeth Roth, who was born on December 26, 1954. He enjoyed fixing cars and driving them recklessly on country back roads. After graduating from high school in 1973, Randy enlisted in the Marine Corps as he wanted to emulate his movie hero Billy Jack. Shortly before his deployment, he robbed a service station, where he had previously been employed, but he was not charged with the crime at that time. Randy was disappointed at his time in the Marines as he ended up serving as a file clerk in Okinawa rather than the combat action he'd fantasized about. After less than a year, he was discharged when his mother (who was living on welfare) wrote a letter to the service protesting that it was a hardship to have him gone and he needed to be home to support her.

Where is Randy Roth now?

Randy is a convicted murderer and thief from Washington. He was convicted of the 1991 murder of his fourth wife, Cynthia Baumgartner Roth and he was suspected of murdering his second wife, Janis Roth, in 1981, but was never tried. In both deaths, he was the only witness. He claimed the activities that led to the deaths were the ideas of his deceased wives (“romantic” notions in both cases) and he had the bodies cremated as quickly as it could be arranged. He was also convicted of stealing in the form of defrauding insurers and the Social Security Administration. He was sentenced to one year for theft and 50 years for first-degree murder in 1992. As of now, Randy, 68, is incarcerated at Stafford Creek Corrections Center.

'A Rose for Her Grave: The Randy Roth Story' is premiering on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 8 pm ET on Lifetime, which you can also stream the next day.
