Controversial country singer Morgan Wallen has been on the wrong side of the headlines ever since he got embroiled in a racial slur scandal in early 2021. Despite getting the heat from the Internet and getting banned from several award shows, Wallen scooped a number of awards last year.

Returning to the stage after a gap of 15 months, Wallen took to the stage of the 2022 Billboard Music Awards to perform two songs and even won the Top Country Male Artist. This, of course, did not go down well with many as ardent music lovers slammed the show for giving the singer an award despite his N-word controversy. In his winning speech, Wallen thanked his family and also his loyal fans saying he got the “best damn fans.”

The 'Whiskey Glasses’ hitmaker performed his two hit singles ‘Don't Think Jesus’ and ‘Wasted on You’ and thanked his mother Lesli Wallen for accompanying him to the event. A while earlier, the award show’s host P Diddy had called for 'uncanceling the canceled' while mentioning Wallen and Travis Scott. Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wallen spoke about the support he received from fellow musicians, including Eric Church and Jason Aldean, as well as Sean "Diddy" Combs. “Everybody tells you that they're your friends when everything's good, so it's really nice to have people who really mean that”, said Wallen adding, “I have never, ever spoke to Diddy, but I would like to tell him thank you tonight, so, that means a lot."

Wallen had got himself in trouble in January 2021 after a neighbor of his recorded him while he was coming back to his Nashville house. In the viral video, the singer was heard telling an acquaintance, “Take care of this p**** a** [N-word]' and 'take care of this p**** a** motherf**ker'.”

The next one asked, “Yall letting mr racist win??” as another mentioned, “I fast forwarded through Travis Scott's performance, because...f**k that guy. But when Morgan Wallen won Top Country Male Artist, I turned it off completely. Enough is enough with these a**holes.” And, another concluded, “Isnt morgan wallen openly racist.”
