Morgan Wallen was ruled out as ineligible at the 56th edition of the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) after he was banned by Country Music Association (CMA) last year over the N-word row. However, the country musician ended up winning Album of the Year at the 57th edition of ACM Awards despite the heat he faced throughout the year.

This, of course, did not go down well with the social media users as the majority of them slammed the 28-year-old crooner for bagging the coveted award. Morgan Wallen was up against Carly Pearce, Thomas Rhett, Chris Young, and the trio Jack Ingram, Miranda Lambert, Jon Randall in the award category. Wallen took home the award for his 'Dangerous: The Double Album', which was released in January 2021 and sold over three million copies.

Morgan Wallen wins Album of the Year despite N-word row

Morgan Wallen was seen accepting the award for Album of the Year at the ceremony held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Whilst accepting the award, the singer-songwriter stated, “When I started this album I was a kid. By the time I put it out, I was a father” adding, “That’s become more important to me than anything else. To my son, this album and this award will signify that his daddy was a fighter, that he chased his dreams and worked hard to make them a reality.” He concluded, “Most importantly, I have to address my fans personally and directly. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m blown away by you guys. God bless.”

Speaking of his N-word controversy, Wallen was caught calling someone 'p***y' and using the N-word back in the first week of February 2021. This was caught in a video captured by TMZ when Wallen was enjoying a night out with friends. In the video, Morgan was heard yelling to his friend from the driveway to 'take care of this p***y a** (N-word)'. Explaining himself, Wallen said that he slurred out those words as he was going through a 72-hour bender. Following the consequences, he checked into a 30-day rehab facility to get a hold of himself. After he was done with the rehab course, he apologized to the authorities of award shows where he was nominated.

‘Country music has no issues with racists’

Social media users rushed to Twitter as soon as Morgan Wallen was announced as the winner of Album of the Year. “It’s barely been a year since Morgan Wallen was “canceled” and now he’s won an Album of the Year award”, said one fan with a sarcastic tone as another posted, “Morgan Wallen winning anything goes to show you country music has no issues with racists and celebrates then.  He's trash and those that like him are too.” The next one shared, “Morgan Wallen wins Album of the Year. Racist country fans can rejoice!”

Meanwhile, another tweeted, “This is the first Morgan Wallen has won a major award since he got caught saying [n-word] in public. Its disappointing, but not surprising that he didn’t address anything related to racism in his speech. He keeps proving that he's learned nothing&hasn't grown. BE BETTER.” One user added, “Hilarious that Morgan Wallen wins after being banned for a year… saw that one coming. Absolutely terrible. #ACMs Carly deserved that one. And, another concluded, “They let Morgan Wallen win album of the year? The man who very publicly said the n word? And you give him an award?! I hate it here I really do.”
