Fans allege that alongside many other K-drama actors, Seo Yea-ji, Kim Seon-ho and Kim Jisoo of Blackpink were snubbed by APAN Star Awards

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: K-drama award shows serve as a great way to reward actors who have helped promote the Hallyu (Korean Wave) with their impeccable acting skills over the entire year. However, that does not seem the case anymore as fans lash out at the organizers of the 2022 APAN Star Awards for snubbing popular and deserving artists. The show did nominate many notable actors for the upcoming event but the fans of artists whom the makers left out are now seeking an explanation.

The show failed to nominate talents like Kim Seon-ho, Seo Ye-ji, Blackpink's Jisoo as well as the K-drama, 'Snowdrop', and one common factor among these entertainers is their personal or professional controversies that were revealed in the last year. On August 31 it was announced that the 2022 APAN Star Awards, the K-drama-centric award show was going to hold its eighth show on September 29 at 8 pm KST (7 am ET). Along with the details of the show, the makers also released a full list of nominations for the award show that has now triggered many fans of the snubbed artists.

APAN Star Awards snub popular and deserving artists

Fans were quick to notice that actors like Seo Ye-ji who starred in the popular K-drama, 'Eve', as well as Kim Seon-ho who appeared in the show, 'Hometown Cha Cha Cha', were not nominated for a single title while their castmates received nominations.

On the other hand, Blackpink Jisoo's acting debut with Disney+'s 'Snowdrop' could very well be called the biggest acting debut of 2022 but both Jisoo and the show did not receive a single nomination. The aforementioned artists and the show were all embroiled in controversies and it seems like 'APAN Star Award' nominates artists on the basis of their controversies and not acting talent.

'Why didn't Seo Yea Ji have a nomination?'

Actress Seo Ye-ji who starred in the 2022 tvN drama, ‘Eve’, after months of being badmouthed online due to her personal life. From rumors about Ye-ji having a bad attitude to unfavorable claims about her public relationship, the last year was one of the most controversial years for the actress. Fans claim that her acting in ‘Eve’ was exceptional but she was still snubbed due to the controversies surrounding her. One fan said, “Me right now, knowing Yeaji is not include in APAN 2022.” Another fan said, “Why didn't Seo Yea Ji have a nomination or did I just miss out??? Her character in Eve is Best Actress caliber!”

'I am sure Seonho is not as bothered I am still uneasy'

Kim Seon-ho’s breakout role in 2021 was when he appeared in the K-drama, ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’, which aired on tvN in partnership with Netflix. However, days after the end of the show, the actor was embroiled in a controversy about his personal life. The issue has been resolved now but the actor suffered huge consequences after the incident. Looks like the effect of that still continues as Seonho as well as the show were completely skipped by the 2022 APAN Star Awards.

One fan said, “I don't know how truly heartbreaking I am with all things going on in SK,APAN announcement make it worst!His own country's industry doesn't even want to  acknowledge his or his show's existence when they are talking about hallyu status. SeonHo, Keep your chin up, u are the BEST!!” Another fan said, “Even though I am sure Seonho is not as bothered, I am still uneasy.  I really want to know about the reaction locally in Korea.  Anyone here can share what’s the public opinion?? Is it just bugging overseas fans?” One more fan siad, “APAN completely snubbed Seon Ho and Homcha in all of their nominations.”

'APAN is rigged'

Not only those but Jisoo’s solo debut was one for the books as Blinks had been anticipating the controversial JTBC and Disney+ show, ‘Snowdrop’ to release. With the Blackpink vocalist making her acting debut with the show, ‘Snowdrop’ ran into continuous controversy with claims that the show was distorting history. As the show ended, it was understood that these claims were all false, however, the public sentiment against Jisoo and ‘Snowdrop’ is why she and the show have not received any nominations at the award festival. One fan said, “I know apan is a rigged award after what they did to bp back then but not nominating jisoo or snowdrop is a full robbery.” Another fan said, “APAN didn't nominated jisoo and snowdrop? Are they afraid for another edit?”
