Only loyal fans can understand the pain of their favorite artists being missing from the scene, however, they also erupt with joy when they finally make a comeback with brand new music. 2020 was no different as it treated a lot of fans with fresh music from artists who disappeared for a while only to come back stronger, harder and better. We take a look at the list of the artists who made the biggest comebacks in the year 2020:

Lady Gaga

American pop sensation Lady Gaga is one of the biggest musicians on this planet and she gained quite a fan following after she dropped music regularly from 2008 to 2016. However,  her Little Monsters were in for a shock when they did not see any announcement from her end concerned with her new project. Even though the 34-year-old crooner stayed in the limelight, she did not drop any full-length project until her sixth studio album titled ‘Chromatica’ in 2020. The news of Grammy award-winner singer’s new album coming after a gap of four years got the fans excited and no doubt, the new record, which was released in May 2020, opened to positive reviews. Singles like ‘Rain On Me’ featuring Ariana Grande, ‘Stupid Love,’ ‘911,’ and Sour Candy’ proved to be one of the chart-topping singles both in the US and the UK.

Selena Gomez

If it was not for her personal relationship, fans might have seen more of Selena Gomez on the charts. However, her on and off relationship with pop icon Justin Bieber, constant headlines in the media and personal trauma, took a toll on her music. The 28-year-old singer’s last album came in 2015 in the form of ‘Revival.’ Selena never really disappeared but she got the Selenators impatient with no music from her end. However, luck shone upon the loyal fans as she finally dropped her 2020 album called ‘Rare’ in the month of January and got all the fans super excited. Singles like ‘Lose You to Love Me,’ ‘Look at Her Now,’ and title track ‘Rare’ were released earlier to promote the album and it did wonders for her. Selena poured her heart out in the album which further strengthened her bond with her global fans. ‘Lose You to Love Me’ also became Selena’s first-ever number-one single in the US. We really hope she keeps dropping new music more than ever.

The Weeknd

With a mysterious aura enveloped in his music, The Weeknd’s songs act like a magnet as they manage to attract people who don’t even like his music. The American R&B crooner’s third studio album ‘Starboy’ which was released in 2016 catapulted him into the league of A-listers and then there was no looking back. He managed to find a new fan base with his experimental pop music and just when people thought he will be releasing new music, he vanished for four years only dropping a single or two and that too as a featured artist.  He won several awards for ‘Starboy’ including the Grammys, however, he only disappeared to come back with a bang. His 2020 album called ‘After Hours’ proved why he is different from other artists in the same genre. Singles like ‘Heartless,’ ‘Blinding Lights,’ ‘In Your Eyes,’ and ‘Save Your Tears’ became the love and heartbreak anthems of the year. The first two even topped the US Hot 100 Billboard chart.

Miley Cyrus

American singer-songwriter and actress Miley Cyrus might have started her journey to fame as a teenager with Disney but she later switched her career as a musician. The 27-year-old singer regularly released music from 2007 to 2017 but then took an abrupt break from making songs for a total of three years. She did make news for her relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth and even released a single or two that too in collaborations. She was teasing her new album for more than a year until, the fans got the good news in October 2020 that she is dropping her seventh studio album on November 27, 2020, in the form of ‘Plastic Hearts’. In order to treat her impatient fans with new music, Miley Cyrus even dropped a single from her new album called ‘Midnight Sky’ a bit early than the album which proved to be a banger.

Sam Smith

The Grammy award-winner, Sam Smith had it all with his very first album titled ‘In The Lonely Hour’ in 2014 and he then dropped his second album called ‘The Thrill of It All’ in 2017. However, between these two albums,Smith always stayed in the limelight but after his much-acclaimed 2017 album, the 28-year-old singer vanished from social media and from the music scene. Though he was spotted at a few events occasionally, he never released any full-length projects. Fans were  speculating that he might take more time to make new music, however, continuing his gap of three years, he did finally make a comeback with his love and sadness filled album ‘Love Goes.’ The brand new album featured hit singles like ‘My Oasis,’ ‘Diamonds,’ and ‘Kids Again.’ We really hope he stays in the scene and keeps his loyal fans hooked to his evergreen music.

Katy Perry

One of the biggest pop icons, Katy Perry first shot to fame with hit songs like ‘I Kissed a Girl’ and ‘Hot n Cold’ and with these songs she only steered ahead. Her disco-influenced albums stood out from the rest. Her 2017 album called ‘Witness’ was received with open arms and included hit singles like ‘Swish Swish,’ ‘Bon Appetit,’ ‘Chained to the Rhythm,’ and Save as Draft.’ However, pop music had changed a lot as compared to when she had started out and therefore, even if fans loved the songs, critics slammed her for being repetitive and not coming up with something new. It was not until mid-2020 when she released her sixth studio album ‘Smile’ which had one of the biggest hit songs in the form of ‘Daisies.’

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is currently 26-years-old and he has been working tirelessly since the age of 13 after he was spotted by his now manager Scooter Braun. He has been releasing music, going on tours, headlining concerts, filming his documentaries and what not. The Canadian pop icon became a global star with his breakout single ‘Baby’ and then released a slew of albums- the biggest and most successful being his 2015 album ‘Purpose.’ Justin Bieber, who was in an on and off relationship with Selena Gomez back then made several headlines for the same and then his marriage to Hailey Baldwin took over the tabloids. His ardent fans were expecting a lot of music when he was at the peak of his career but it took him five years to come back with a full-length project titled ‘Changes.’ He did spill the beans about his drug use and mental health issues which took a toll on his health but his loyal fans were more than welcoming and made his new album reach the top 5 on the charts.

AC/DC

Australian hard rock band AC/DC was formed in 1973 and has 16 full-length studio albums to their name. With such extensive discography and numerous awards in their kitty, they are one of the biggest hard rock bands to ever hit the stage. However, just like other bands, AC/DC was no stranger to controversies like drug abuse, change in line-ups, and personal tragedies which ultimately slowed down their music-making process. Their last album came in 2014 after which they went on world tours stretching from one to two years. Fans were pretty sure, they are done for good and probably won’t release any new music but to everyone’s surprise, AC/DC is indeed coming with a fresh album titled ‘Power Up’ which will be available from November 13, 2020. The band has already released one single from the fresh project called ‘Shot in the Dark’ in October 2020.

Dua Lipa

The 25-year-old British singer-songwriter had quite a different route to fame as compared to other artists of her age. She first stepped into modeling before getting signed to a label in 2015. She then rose to prominence with her debut self-titled album in the year 2017 which got her a new fan base from chart-topping singles like  ‘Be the One’ and ‘IDGAF.’ Usually, artists drop a lot of music if you earn this kind of fame from your very first project. Dua Lipa, who won several awards for her debut album, did release a couple of singles in collaborations with other artists but did not drop any full-length project until 2020 with ‘Future Nostalgia.’ The wait was all worth it for the fans as the album released in March 2020 proved to be another banger for the artist. Hit songs like ‘Don’t Start Now,’ ‘Break My Heart,’ and ‘Levitating’ further catapulted her fame to newer heights.  We hope she releases another full-length project at the earliest.

Kesha

It won’t be wrong to say if we tell you it was Kesha’s songs which taught everybody how to party hard. Even though Kesha was signed to a label at the age of 18 in 2005, her major success came in early 2009 after she was featured on rapper Flo Rida’s number-one single ‘Right Round.’ She dropped her first album in 2010 with ‘Animal’ and it was in 2017 when she dropped her third album after a five-year hiatus due to her legal issues with her label over copyrights. Fans were pretty sure about getting served with a lot of new music, however, that did not happen, as she again took a three-year break before making a comeback in 2020 with her album titled ‘High Road.’ The 33-year-old’s new album included singles like ‘Raising Hell,’ ‘My Own Dance,’ and ‘Tonight’ which were released at the end of 2019, however, her full-length album did not drop until January. The album debuted at number seven on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. Here’s hoping for more fresh music from her in the near future.
