One Direction reunion rumors spark worldwide listening party as fans get hyped for band's 10th anniversary
In the past few days, rumors have been doing the rounds online after it was revealed that the celebrated boy band One Direction might be planning on reuniting to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
The beloved five-piece outfit was formed in 2010 after becoming an all-conquering phenomenon on 'The X-Factor' series and topped the charts every year until the popular Zayn Malik left in 2015, prompting all five members to pursue their solo singing careers.
The 26-year-old Liam Payne recently revealed, "We've got a 10-year anniversary coming up so we've all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks which has been really nice. There's a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around."
Payne also stated, "But more than anything it's just been a real good time for us to connect together again," adding that he was enjoying the solo work of all the members, especially Harry Styles' recent offerings.
And last night, #1DOnlineConcertStayAtHome started trending to celebrate the upcoming potential reunion. One Direction fans in Indonesia started an online concert for One Directioners worldwide, with the band's massive fanbase listening to One Direction albums, as well as solo songs made by individual members of the group.
Although Payne confirmed that he would be reuniting with his band members Styles, Horan and Tomilson for the reunion project, it remains unclear as to whether Malik would be joining them.
One Direction fans noticed that in a timely coincidence for their 10-year anniversary on July 23, Styles, Horan, Tomlinson and Payne had all refollowed Malik on Twitter, although Malik did not follow them back.
The ensuing Twitter storm caused #OneDirectionReunion to trend on social media, soon followed by the #1DOnlineConcertStayAtHome listening party last night.
Although every member now has a successful solo career with different record labels, a source close to a band member's management team had this to say about the reunion plans: "There's still a long way to go and a lot of hurdles. Obviously, at the moment anything they do would have to be done virtually. But there’s a lot of goodwill between them now and they want to make something happen."
Only time will tell as to whether this becomes a reality, but until then, the Twitterverse will be hosting one massive One Direction listening party!
