ROME, ITALY: On Saturday, June 10, a report that claimed Zendaya was left red-faced after she was denied entry to an upscale restaurant in Rome due to its strict dress code. However, the actress and her team promptly refuted the report by deeming it "completely false" and "a bald head lie." The actress herself responded indirectly to the report by sharing a meme that mocked the situation without explicitly addressing it.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, when Zendaya, who had reservations at the Terrazza Borromini, arrived wearing "a black tube top and cargo pants," she was turned away due to what she and her party were wearing. The tabloid claimed the the actress "looked unimpressed" while speaking to the restaurant staffers.
Was Zendaya turned away from a restarant?
In pictures obtained by the Daily Mail, Zendaya was seen wearing a black tube top and cargo pants during her outing. The outlet said the restaurant reportedly insisted that guests needed to be in a "smart casual" attire if they wished to dine there.
Scott Newman, Zendaya's spokesperson, reportedly stated, "This is completely false. The group arrived at this restaurant and realized they had previously dined there on their last visit to Rome," adding that the entourage left to “try something new."
‘Well, this is an outright lie’
As per Daily Mail, the group eventually went to a pizzeria nearby. Darnell Appling, Zendaya's friend and personal assistant, addressed the issue on Instagram. He shared a screenshot of the Mail's article, accompanied by a caption that read, "Well, this is an outright lie. We were not denied entry anywhere. When we entered the building, we recognized it as the place we had previously been to—the same location where Zendaya had slipped on the stairs and shared about it last year."
Appling referred to an incident in Rome in February 2022 when Zendaya stumbled on a flight of stairs but was caught by her security team before hitting the ground. At that time, Page Six reported that she was heading for lunch at Eitch Borromini, the luxury hotel that houses Terrazza Borromini.
