'Justice League': Prank tweet on Snyder cut release makes DC fans go berserk: 'Your spot in hell is reserved'
There's nothing more satisfying and funny than a prank pulled to perfection. This is true especially when some pains have been taken to make the prank one that people would remember for a long time. Folks at HBO Max would be sharing a hearty laugh after a fake tweet from a fake team about a widely discussed DC topic was pulled off to near perfection.
A tweet from @HBOMaxOfficial (Note this is not the same as the streaming service's actual account) had Twitter in an uproar after they said the much-awaited and elusive Zack Snyder cut of 'Justice League' would be available on the streaming service when it launches next month. To make the claim sound real, they even used a tribute poster of the movie created by BossLogic. Needless to say, folks on Twitter went nuts.
The tweet read: "You asked for it and we listened. We're releasing the Zack Snyder's Justice League as a launch title for #HBOMax in May 2020. 214 minutes in 4K resolution. He will rise. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut", and here's what fans had to say.
"Your spot in hell is reserved," wrote a fan while another DC fan didn't find this whole bit amusing. "No no no... You don't make jokes about that," he tweeted. What also followed was a bunch of meme posters to add to the fun element. Some fans, though, looked at the silver lining. "Nah. This is clearly a double bluff. They know our fanbase will eat them alive if they don't release it now. It's coming out boys! Let's go!! #ReleaseTheSnyderCut," a fan opined.
At the moment, the tweet is close to touching 600 responses with over 1.1k retweets.
Celebs couldn't stay off the fun either. 'Eternals' star Kumail Nanjiani replied saying: "They have 14 followers..." while 'Guardians of the Galaxy' director, James Gunn said to Nanjiani: "But the most important 14". There was still one optimistic fan who's tweet was seconded by many. "On the bright side, this confirms it is not going to be on HBO max but in theaters" his tweet read.
Last year, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot jumped on the bandwagon of stars and fans calling for the release of director Zack Snyder's cut of 'Justice League'. The actors who played Batman and Wonder Woman in the ensemble DC Superhero film had joined the movement on Twitter using the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.
For those who're still don't know what this is all about, the cut refers to Snyder's original edit of the film which was shelved when he and his wife Deborah Snyder stepped away from the project following a family tragedy. Joss Whedon, the 'Avengers' writer-director was roped in to wrap up reshoots and production. The film though was a damp squib and left fans unhappy with the final version of the film.
