‘Feedback appreciated, now pay $8’: AOC gets schooled by Elon Musk after he reveals her shirts cost $58
Elon Musk, the new CEO of Twitter, was criticized by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) for trying to sell "free expression," to which Musk responded, "Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8." The SpaceX CEO issued his withering response just after on Tuesday night, November 1, Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Elon Musk’s plan to charge Twitter users a monthly fee to keep their accounts verified. The New York Democrat tweeted, “Lmao at a billionaire earnestly trying to sell people on the idea that free speech is actually an $8/mo subscription plan.”
Elon Musk also posted a screenshot of the cost of a sweatshirt that was featured on Ocasio-Cortez's website in a tweet. He shared a picture of the item and placed a circle over the $58 price tag. Ocasio-Cortez posted another tweet in which she claimed that her Twitter mentions and notifications had ceased to function as a result of her conversation with Musk. “Also my Twitter mentions/notifications conveniently aren't working tonight, so I was informed via text that I seem to have gotten under a certain billionaire's skin,” she remarked. According to Daily Mail, Twitter was considering implementing a $20 monthly verification fee. However, on Tuesday, November 1, Elon Musk announced that the Twitter Blue tick will cost around $8 a month. “Power to the people! Blue for $8/[month]” Musk remarked while adding, “Twitter’s current lords [and} peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bulls.”

According to Musk, those who pay will also get priority in replies, mentions, and search, the ability to post long videos and audio, and see half as many ads. “You get what you pay for,” Musk remarked. Musk also revealed that publishers willing to work with Twitter will get a paywall bypass, and there will be a secondary tag below the name of someone who is a public figure. “This will also give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators,” he remarked. Musk also appreciated "being attacked simultaneously by the right and the left," describing it as a "good sign." Earlier, along with AOC, Musk’s announcement drew lots of criticism, particularly from those with blue checks. Author Stephen King criticized the notion of a $20 verification fee earlier on Tuesday, November 1.

King tweeted, “$20 a month to keep my blue check? F*** that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I'm gone like Enron.” Musk responded back saying, “We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?” Kathy Burke, an actress, author, and comedian, likewise said that she would not pay, writing on Twitter, “Musk can f*** off with his idea of charging blue-tickers. I give my all to this hell site for FREE. Cheeky b**** should be paying ME. Don't need the poxy thing anyway.”
